Chapter 1188 I Didn't Protect You All
Upon hearing this, Cecilia smiled and said, "It seems everything is my fault. I failed to live up to your deep affection."
Daryl frowned and sincerely said, "No, it's all my fault. If I had told you about my family background in time, maybe you wouldn't have made a misguided decision."
When he brought up those shameful years of the past, Cecilia's face still looked very unpleasant.
She simply said, "Actually, I'm just a vain person. I only like rich men!"
"No! You're not that kind of person. The reason you did that back then was for your family. They worked so hard to raise you and put you through school. You couldn't bear to see them suffer anymore, so you did what you did," Daryl interrupted.
At those words, Cecilia felt a tightness in her throat.
Thinking about the difficulties of that time, she looked up at the ceiling. Money can make a person do the most ridiculous and foolish things.
"I also misunderstood you. I've always misunderstood you. I thought you were a vain woman, so I hated you. But even while hating you, I couldn't help but love you. So I was moody. I couldn't hate you, but I couldn't love you anymore either. It was painful, and sometimes I took it out on you. But after I did, I felt even worse. It became a vicious cycle, unbearable. Of course, you suffered the most. I was such a jerk back then. Cecilia, please forgive me. Give me another chance, will you?" Daryl looked at Cecilia with pleading eyes.
Cecilia met Daryl's pained yet hopeful gaze, feeling a deep sorrow in her heart.
As this moment, the sound of a wind chime rang outside.
It was a reminder from the waiter that the food was ready. Cecilia quickly turned her face away and quietly wiped the tears from her cheeks with the back of her hand.
Then, the sliding door was opened, and the waiter came in with dishes, placing them one by one on the table.
After the waiter left, memories of their time in Northstar City flooded Cecilia's mind.
Although those days were tough, there were many things worth remembering. At least, they were together back then.
Daryl continued, "I know you mind Skylar a lot. I can tell you clearly that Skylar and I never dated. I haven't even kissed her. The only time we had any intimate contact was when we got engaged, and I kissed her forehead. That's it."
Seeing his eager explanation, Cecilia said, "No matter what happens between you and Skylar, it has nothing to do with me anymore. Daryl, it's impossible for us. Give up on this."
Daryl became unsettled. He urgently grabbed her hand. "Why is it impossible? I've always loved you, and you love me too. You can't lie to me. Besides, I broke off the engagement with Skylar a long time ago. I never loved her. The obstacles between us are completely gone. Why can't we be together?"
Cecilia frowned and said, "Daryl, don't you understand? We are from two different worlds. Even if we force ourselves to be together, we won't be happy. You have your life path, and I have mine. Our paths will never cross!"
After saying this, she shook off Daryl's hand, stood up abruptly, and said to Daryl, "I think we've said everything we needed to say. I'm sorry, I have no appetite. I'm leaving!"
Cecilia bent down to pick up her bag and turned to leave.
Seeing this, Daryl also stood up, took a step forward, and hugged Cecilia, then lowered his head to kiss her forcefully.
His kiss was aggressive and undeniable, leaving her no room to struggle.
He held the back of Cecilia's head with one hand and her lower back with the other, expressing all his longing and love from the past six months in this kiss.
"Let go," Cecilia naturally struggled with all her might, both anxious and angry.
But her attempts were in vain, only resulting in his more brazen plundering.
Gradually, Cecilia became physically exhausted and, lacking oxygen, helplessly leaned into his embrace.
And now, Daryl's kiss turned from aggressive to gentle.
His actions were incredibly tender. Her eyes were fixed on him, who was deeply absorbed with his eyes closed, and she couldn't help but frown.
His brows were also slightly furrowed, his face carrying a trace of sorrow. His gentle kiss almost broke her heart.
Not long after, Daryl's kiss stopped. He opened his eyes and met Cecilia's clear gaze.
Daryl gently released Cecilia, placing his hands on the wall on either side of her head, and said with self-reproach, "I'm sorry, I lost control just now."
Cecilia opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.
She should have pushed him away forcefully at this moment, or even slapped him, and it wouldn't have been too much.
But she couldn't do it because the sorrow in his eyes broke her heart.
"I love you. I can't live without you. Won't you give me a chance?" Daryl asked, staring intently at Cecilia.
Cecilia's heart was in turmoil at this moment. Although the Daryl in front of her was very tempting, she knew she couldn't fall into it again. If she did, the result could be disastrous.
She said harshly, "Daryl, I used to love you, but ever since that child left, I really can't love you anymore."
Mentioning that child, Daryl's face darkened.
After a while, with a choked voice, he said, "I'm sorry, I didn't protect you both."
A tragic smile appeared on Cecilia's face. "It seems it's not meant to be for us to have a connection with this child. It's destiny. If we had this child, maybe we could still be together. But without this child, the only link between us is gone. So, perhaps it's just fate that keeps us apart."
"Cecilia," Daryl's expression turned extremely ugly upon hearing this.
"Daryl, you still refuse to acknowledge the gap between us. We aren't meant to be together. Forcing it won't bring happiness. We should let go and give each other a peaceful life. I'm speaking from the heart. Please respect my choice," Cecilia said, looking seriously at Daryl.
Daryl took two steps back in disappointment, gazing at her for a long time before asking with difficulty, "You really won't give me a single chance?"
