Chapter 905 When Asking for Help, One Must Ask Nicely
After landing in Avaloria, Susan and Seb were all lovey-dovey the entire time. Meanwhile, Kathy and Mary were busy wrangling the kids, leaving just Leon and Isabella to fend for themselves.
Leon and Isabella hated each other, so Leon kept to himself, and Isabella did her own thing, occasionally playing with Hayden and Spring.
Two days in, Isabella was ready to call it quits on the trip. Being alone was a drag, and she didn't want to crash Susan's honeymoon vibes.
That night, Susan and Seb went out for some couple time, and Hayden and Spring weren't feeling the local food. So, Kathy and Mary whipped up something special for them.
Isabella had to venture out to find her own grub. She found a popular spot nearby online and decided to check it out.
Under the bright neon lights, Isabella pushed open the door and stepped into the bustling restaurant.
The place was packed, almost every table taken.
"Any seats left?" Isabella asked the waiter.
The waiter scanned the room and said, "There's a gentleman dining alone. Would you mind sharing a table?"
Isabella shrugged, thinking, 'Why not? Maybe I'll meet a cute guy.'
The waiter led her to a table by the window.
As soon as she looked up, she saw her nemesis, Leon, sitting there.
The waiter said a few words to Leon.
Leon glanced up at Isabella, whose face had soured, and said, "I don't mind sharing, but does the lady?"
Isabella sneered. "I might lose my appetite looking at you. I'll come back another time."
She turned to leave.
"I knew you wouldn't dare sit with me," Leon taunted.
Isabella stopped in her tracks. After a moment's hesitation, she turned back, walked to the table, and plopped down across from Leon. She told the waiter, "I'll sit here."
The waiter quickly fetched the menu and asked Isabella to wait a moment.
Seeing her sit down, Leon smirked and pulled out a cigarette, about to light it.
Isabella snapped, "Mr. Johnson, there's a lady here who can't stand smoke."
Leon glanced at her and put the cigarette away.
Isabella turned away, fiddling with her glass. "Didn't you say you'd lose your appetite looking at me? Well, tough luck, I'm here to ruin it."
Leon laughed, shrugged, and said, "Right back at ya. I'll ruin yours too."
Isabella shot back, "I can just not look at you."
"Same here," Leon said, turning his face away.
They both ignored each other after that.
Soon, the waiter brought the menu and placed it in front of Isabella.
Scanning the menu, Isabella realized she didn't recognize half the items and frowned in frustration.
Seeing this, Leon sneered. "It's a real problem when people can't even read a menu."
Isabella snapped the menu shut, glaring at him. Then she turned to the waiter with a sweet smile. "I'll have whatever he's having!"
"Alright," the waiter said and walked off.
Leon was taken aback for a second, then smirked and kept quiet.
Isabella turned her attention to the pedestrians outside, resting her chin on her hand, completely ignoring Leon.
Soon, the waiter brought their dishes.
In front of both Leon and Isabella were identical plates, and finally, the waiter placed two matching bottles of red wine on the table.
Isabella was stunned. She could handle a couple of glasses, but she wasn't planning on drinking alone.
Leon picked up his wine bottle, poured some into his glass, and took a leisurely sip while enjoying his food.
Isabella pursed her lips, then poured herself some wine, eating and drinking at the same time.
Throughout the meal, they didn't exchange a single word.
Before she knew it, Isabella had finished the entire bottle of wine and was starting to feel dizzy.
After the meal, Isabella raised her hand to call the waiter for the bill.
The waiter quickly brought it over.
Isabella glanced at the bill. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw the amount: $2,200.
She blinked, thinking she must have read it wrong. But no, it still said $2,200.
Panic set in.
She had expected the meal to cost a few hundred bucks at most, not $2,200. She only had a little over $1,000 on her.
"Miss?" The waiter prompted, seeing that Isabella hadn't taken out any money.
"Why is it so expensive? What did I eat?" Isabella asked.
The waiter explained that the main expense was the wine.
Isabella glanced at the red wine and then back at the bill, seeing that the wine alone was $2,000.
"$2,000 for the wine? What kind of wine is this?" Isabella asked, her head throbbing from the strong wine.
Leon chimed in. "It's a 1982 vintage. $2,000 is a fair price."
Isabella looked up angrily. "Why did you order such expensive wine? Now I can't even pay the bill."
Leon shrugged. "What I order has nothing to do with you. You chose to have the same as me."
Isabella was at a loss for words.
The waiter, who had been waiting patiently, asked, "Miss, will you be paying with cash or card?"
Isabella looked down for a long moment, then took out all the money in her wallet and turned to Leon. "I only have $1,200 on me right now. Can you lend me $1,000? I'll pay you back as soon as we get back home!"
Leon leaned back in his chair, eyeing the slightly tipsy Isabella. "Are you asking me for a favor? If you want help, you should at least ask nicely, right?"
