Chapter 1346 Avoid
At that moment, Cecilia said, "It's a shame, but I don't want to patch things up with Daryl anymore. Whether he gets it or not doesn't matter to me. My conscience is clear."
"What about Thaddeus? You can't keep living like this," Elijah asked urgently.
Cecilia looked down at Thaddeus in her arms and said calmly, "His dad doesn't acknowledge him, so what can he do? When the time is right, I'll divorce Daryl. I'll raise Thaddeus on my own. But right now, Thaddeus's grandma is sick, so I can't bring it up."
Hearing this, Elijah frowned and said, "Is there no way to mend the relationship between you two?"
Cecilia shook her head firmly.
Seeing this, Elijah said worriedly, "My mom's changed her opinion of you, and Thaddeus is her lifeline now. He's become her emotional support. I think it's best to keep things as they are for now and see how my mom recovers. Can you do that?"
Seeing the concern in Elijah's eyes, Cecilia replied, "Elijah, don't worry. I know your mom is recovering. I won't bring up anything about Thaddeus until she's better."
In truth, Cecilia was also worried. Given Azalea's condition, it would take at least a year for her to fully recover. During this time, Cecilia couldn't take Thaddeus away. But if she didn't take Thaddeus away, she would have to continue living in the Fields Mansion, which left her feeling helpless.
A week later, Azalea returned home to recuperate.
After coming back from the hospital, Azalea's personality changed. She became quieter and less fond of socializing. She spent her days sunbathing and playing with her grandson. She no longer kept in touch with her old socialite friends and seemed peaceful and serene. Although she wasn't close to Cecilia, she was at least polite and respectful.
Cecilia was anxious. She couldn't stay in the Fields Mansion forever, but seeing Azalea's frail body and her deep affection for Thaddeus, she had no choice but to go with the flow.
Daryl and Elijah spent noticeably more time at home with Azalea. Whenever they were around, Cecilia would hide upstairs. They, along with Azalea and Thaddeus, seemed to enjoy each other's company, making Cecilia feel like an outsider.
One evening, in the cool early summer breeze, Azalea and Daryl were chatting in the backyard while Finn played with Thaddeus nearby.
Cecilia walked out with Thaddeus's bottle, intending to give him some water. As she reached the corner, she saw Daryl and stopped in her tracks.
Both she and Daryl had been avoiding each other, so they rarely crossed paths in the Fields Mansion.
Seeing Daryl with Azalea, Cecilia turned to leave but couldn't help overhearing their conversation, which involved her, making her stop again.
"Daryl, how are things with you and Cecilia?" Azalea asked softly.
Daryl frowned. "Mom, what are you trying to say?"
Azalea looked at Thaddeus and said, "Thaddeus needs his parents' companionship, so you and Cecilia cannot continue as you are now."
Daryl replied, "Mom, as long as you're happy, that's all that matters."
"What kind of talk is that? I just want you happy and Thaddeus safe. I was wrong about Cecilia—her affair with Elijah was Skylar's lie. Elijah swore nothing happened. That girl suffered alone through pregnancy to give us this precious Fields heir. You loved her once. Why not fix this?"
Daryl stared at Thaddeus for a long moment before saying, "Mom, don't worry about my affairs. But I promise, Thaddeus will always be by your side."
With that, Daryl turned and left the garden.
Cecilia, standing at the corner, was about to leave quickly but was too late. Daryl had already seen her.
Under the blue sky and white clouds, Cecilia stood in a corner of the lush garden, wearing a white dress with blue floral prints. Her short hair framed her face, and she wore simple pearl earrings. Despite her lack of makeup, her natural beauty shone through, her skin glowing in the sunlight.
Since giving birth to Thaddeus, her figure had become more voluptuous, exuding a captivating charm.
When Daryl noticed Cecilia, he paused.
Their eyes met, and Cecilia felt extremely awkward.
She hadn't meant to eavesdrop on their conversation, but it seemed like she had. Her face flushed with embarrassment.
"I was just bringing Thaddeus his bottle," she stammered after a moment, feeling like she had inadvertently confessed to eavesdropping.
Daryl glanced at the bottle in her hand and said, "I don't mind if you overheard. I wasn't saying anything secret."
With that, Daryl walked past Cecilia.
Cecilia felt a surge of anger. What did he mean by that? Was he implying she was eavesdropping?
She wanted to retort but found herself at a loss for words, left fuming.
Every day in the Fields family was tormenting for Cecilia. After that encounter, she avoided Daryl even more, but no matter how hard she tried, she always seemed to catch a glimpse of him from afar.
Cecilia found herself increasingly hating Daryl, not wanting to see him at all. As Azalea's health improved day by day, Cecilia desperately wanted to bring up Thaddeus and leave the suffocating Fields Mansion.
A few nights later, there was a sudden knock on Cecilia's door in the middle of the night.
The bedroom was dimly lit by a wall lamp, and Thaddeus was sound asleep on the bed.
Hearing the knock, Cecilia frowned, thinking it was Freya. She put on a robe and got out of bed to open the door.
When she opened the door and saw who it was, her frown deepened. She quickly crossed her arms over her chest, feeling self-conscious in her thin robe.
