Chapter 921 Can't Let Go

She suspected that Leon married her simply because she was the only virgin he had ever slept with.

Isabella felt totally insulted. People often made fun of her behind her back for being thirty and never having had a serious relationship. They probably even called her an old maid. It was true that finding an old maid these days was pretty rare.

Isabella's eyes filled with tears as she stared at Leon and said, "Leon, is it because I gave you my virginity that you want to marry me?"

"Yes." Leon nodded.

Isabella angrily shook off Leon's hand from her wrist and snapped, "Leon, let me tell you, it was just a coincidence. I have given you my virginity, but I can sleep with other men in the future. Do you get that?"

Isabella's words easily angered Leon, and his brows furrowed completely. "What do you mean by that?"

"Don't you get it? Aren't you supposed to be smart? I mean you're just one of the men in my sex life, nothing more!" With that, Isabella resolutely opened the door.

Leon clenched his fist so tightly that it made a sound.

As Isabella stepped out the door, she said with her back to Leon, "I don't want to see you again. Please don't disturb my peaceful life anymore!"

With that, Isabella turned and left, leaving Leon standing there.

As Isabella quickly walked out of the hotel, tears began to fall uncontrollably.

She didn't even know why she had said such confident words earlier. Maybe she was just trying to protect her pitiful self-esteem.

Leon had appeared in front of her several times, sometimes even showing concern for her. But he didn't have any real feelings for her; he just felt guilty for taking her virginity.

He even wanted to compensate her with money. What kind of woman did he think she was? Did he think her chastity could be bought with money?

And talking about marriage, that was probably just an excuse. He just wanted to give her some money as compensation.

Isabella didn't even know how she managed to get home in a daze.

After taking a hot shower and sleeping under the covers, Isabella woke up feeling particularly empty.

She regretted being so stubborn at that time. She was just an ordinary person. In hindsight, she should have asked him how much he wanted to compensate her.

Isabella knew she had to keep working hard and continue living. She had no family left in this world and had to rely on herself for everything.

Therefore, she thought it wasn't a big deal about a breakup for her.

The next morning, Isabella put on a new outfit, applied light makeup, and went to work with a radiant look. But only she knew the sadness in her heart.

Sure enough, in the days that followed, Leon never appeared in front of her again.

Time flew by, and more than a month passed in a flash.

One morning, Isabella went out to meet a client but realized halfway there that she had forgotten some documents. She hurried back to the office to retrieve them.

Just as she was about to enter the office, she heard a familiar voice inside.

Hearing Leon's voice, Isabella quickly hid behind a wall and listened to the conversation inside.

"Mr. Johnson, what brings you here today?" Maria asked Leon with a smile.

"Well, Mr. Anderson asked me to bring this tea set to Ms. Wilson. He said it could be used to entertain guests here," Leon replied.

Maria glanced at the tea set and smiled, "This tea set is exquisite. But why did you come personally to deliver it, Mr. Johnson? Couldn't you have sent someone else?"

"Oh, I was just passing by," Leon answered.

"I see," Maria said.

"By the way, why are you the only one here?" Leon looked around the office, his eyes sweeping over Isabella's desk.

Outside, Isabella felt a wave of panic when she heard Leon's question.

She thought, 'Is he asking why I am not there, or asking about someone else?'

Although Leon was officially an assistant, everyone knew his status at Prosperity Group was higher than that of a vice president. He only handled particularly important matters personally. There was no need for him to deliver a tea set in person.

'Could it be that he wanted to see me?' The thought made Isabella's heart race.

In the past few days, although Isabella seemed normal, working hard every day and laughing as usual, only she knew the bitterness in her heart. She often sat in a daze, and when Susan and Maria noticed, she would lie and say she was thinking about how to improve the office's business.

Maria thought Leon was asking about Susan, so she quickly replied, "Susan had something to do this morning and didn't come in. The receptionist is sick and on leave. Oh, and Isabella went out to meet a client."

Hearing this, Leon touched his tie, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Oh, I'll be going then."

"Take care, Mr. Johnson," Maria said as she saw him out.

Hearing that Leon was leaving, Isabella quickly moved to a corner to hide.

Leon left the office, looked around, and, not seeing Isabella, got into the elevator disappointedly.

It wasn't until he was in the elevator that Isabella came out of hiding, not even catching a glimpse of his back.

Then, Isabella walked into the office, feeling lost.

Maria saw Isabella return and quickly asked, "Isabella, weren't you meeting a client? Why are you back so soon?"

"Oh, I came back to get some documents. I forgot to bring them." Isabella remembered why she had returned.

Maria quickly found the documents and handed them to Isabella. "Mr. Johnson just came by to deliver a tea set to Susan. Can you believe such a big shot came to deliver something so trivial?"

"Oh, really?" Isabella, preoccupied, didn't feel like talking to Maria. She took the documents and left in a hurry.

But Isabella didn't know that as she walked out of the office building, Leon, sitting in a car not far away, finally saw her.

Leon had been waiting downstairs, hoping to see her, and was surprised to see her come out of the building so soon.

'Isn't she supposed to be meeting a client? Why is she coming out of the building?' Leon frowned, then thought she might have been in the office all along, hiding because she didn't want to see him.

She was deliberately avoiding him. Realizing this, Leon felt a wave of frustration.
