Chapter 471 Throwing Herself into His Arms

Seb leaned in close and whispered in Susan's ear, "Sorry, my bad. Totally my fault!"

Susan felt a warm fuzziness in her chest hearing his apology.

"Honestly, I messed up too," she admitted. "Should've talked to you before making any birth control decisions."

Seb suddenly nudged her shoulder, staring at her intensely. "Got a question for ya."

"Hit me," Susan replied, looking serious.

"Next time, birth control or nah?" Seb asked, deadpan.

Susan was taken aback, then playfully smacked his shoulder. "Get away!"

"Come on, I'm being serious here," Seb's eyes twinkled with mischief.

"You're the least serious person I know," Susan jabbed a finger at his chest.

"Anyone there?" A weak voice called from the ward.

Seb and Susan immediately turned and rushed in.

They saw Todd was fully awake. He raised a hand when he saw Seb. "Kinda thirsty."

"Dad, I'll grab you some water," Seb said quickly.

Susan hurriedly poured a glass, and Seb gently lifted Todd's head, helping him take a few sips.

After drinking, Todd nodded, satisfied.

Then Todd grabbed Seb's hand and said, "Don't blame Susan; it was my own slip-up."

Susan felt a pang of guilt.

Todd was a stand-up guy. She never understood why he married Carol. But then again, Catherine was a sweetheart and ended up with a jerk like James.

"Dad, I share some of the blame too," Susan said, feeling down.

"Carol's got a fiery temper, don't hold it against her. A happy family is a prosperous one," Todd looked at Susan with hopeful eyes.

Susan felt torn. She wanted a peaceful family, but Carol's attitude was tough to handle.

Seeing Todd hurt, she nodded to comfort him. "I get it, Dad."

"Good," Todd said, closing his eyes tiredly.

Seb and Susan stayed by Todd's side. When he finally fell asleep, Seb stood up and took Susan's hand, leading her out.

"It's late. You should head home and rest. I'll stay with Dad," Seb told her.

Susan shook her head quickly. "You've been traveling; you need rest. I'll stay with Dad."

"I'm his son; I can't leave. Plus, there's a nurse here," Seb smiled.

Susan felt reluctant, but Seb insisted.

With no choice, Susan packed her bag and started to leave.

A few steps away, she stopped. Unable to hold back, she turned and threw herself into Seb's arms!

Seb frowned at first, then wrapped his arms around her tightly.

With a bit of a sob, Susan said, "When I had it out with Mom, Dad stepped in and called her out. Mom got pissed and they started going at it. She said she wanted to leave, and I thought if she did and something happened, I'd never forgive myself. Plus, you'd be mad at me when you got back. So I said if anyone should leave, it should be me. I didn't expect Dad to follow me. I didn't expect this to happen. Seb, I swear, I didn't mean it."

Susan had been dying to explain to Seb but never got the chance. Now that she spilled it all, she felt a weight lift off her shoulders.

"It's cool, Dad just needs some rest," Seb patted her back, trying to comfort her.

Seb pushed her back a bit and saw her red eyes. He teased, "Wow, you crying? That's a first."

Susan looked down and smiled, then suddenly remembered, "Have you eaten yet?"

"I rushed back on the plane, too worried to eat," Seb admitted, looking down.

"Are you hungry now?" Susan asked, looking up at him.

"Now that I know Dad's okay, yeah, I'm starving," Seb said, rubbing his stomach.

Susan smiled and touched her own stomach, "Me too. I was too anxious to eat lunch."

Seb said, "I'll stay here. You go grab some food."

"Okay," Susan said, pulling away from his embrace.

After a few steps, she turned back, "What do you want to eat?"

"Anything," Seb replied.

"Anything? I'll ask if they have 'anything' on the menu," Susan joked as she walked away.

Seb chuckled as he watched her leave. Once she was out of sight, his face turned serious again.

He looked at the ward door, then pulled out his phone and called Carol.

Carol started nagging and blaming, and Seb could only try to calm her down.

After hanging up, Seb slumped on the bench, feeling drained.

When Susan came back with the food, they sat on the bench in the hallway, eating and chatting.

That night, Susan stayed with Seb. It wasn't until the next morning, after Seb insisted, that Susan reluctantly left.

Susan had nowhere to go and didn't want to bother Catherine at Dorothy's place. Plus, Dorothy wouldn't be thrilled to see her, so she headed to Isabella's.

Maybe she was just exhausted or stressed out, but Susan slept until four in the afternoon.

After getting up, washing up, and grabbing a bite, Isabella came back from work.

"What's your problem? Leaving your fancy place to crash here? Did Carol kick you out?" Isabella asked, eyeing Susan, who was dressed and ready to leave.

Susan frowned, not in the mood for jokes, and quickly filled Isabella in on what happened yesterday.

Isabella's eyes widened. After a moment, she shook her head, "You've really stepped in it this time. At least Todd and Seb aren't blaming you. But what's your plan? You can't just not go back, right?"

"Let's worry about that later. I gotta get to the hospital to check on Todd," Susan said and headed out.
