Chapter 496 Farewell

Seb's face got all serious as he said, "I heard that on the day of the car crash, Amelia got rushed to the hospital. They tried to save her for like two or three hours, but she didn't make it. She passed away that day, and they had the funeral yesterday."

Susan was just standing there, totally stunned, trying to wrap her head around it. Even though Amelia was her nemesis, it was still pretty sad that someone so full of life was just... gone.

Seeing Susan all quiet, Seb kept going, "Guess who set up Amelia's funeral this time?"

Susan looked up, all confused, "Wasn't it Sophia?"

"Nah, it was Ethan. Sophia's broke and couldn't handle it," Seb replied.

Susan was surprised, "Wow, Ethan's actually a stand-up guy."

Seb nodded. "Yeah, the funeral was really well done. Not a lot of people showed up, but it was decent, and Ethan was there the whole time."

Susan got it. Even though Ethan and Amelia were done for, they used to be in love. Now that she was gone and her family couldn't even afford a funeral, Ethan stepped up. All the bad blood ended with her passing.

Thinking about it, with Amelia's death, all her grudges with Amelia were wiped clean, making her feel a lot lighter.

Then, Susan suddenly looked up and grinned. "Looks like you and Ethan have something in common."

Seb raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?"

Susan smirked, "Both of you can throw a funeral for your exes."

Seb opened his mouth but didn't know what to say, finally mumbling, "I knew you were gonna say that."

"It just shows having a reliable ex is a good thing. At least when you're at your worst, they can take care of your body," Susan said with a playful smile.

Seb reached out and hugged Spring, playing with her while saying, "Go ahead, mock me all you want. I'm used to your sarcasm now; it doesn't even faze me."

"Who's mocking you? Can't you tell I'm praising you for being decent and righteous?" Susan laughed.

Honestly, what Seb did for Cynthia really moved Susan. Not every ex would do that, especially since Cynthia had caused Seb so much trouble.

"I didn't hear any praise; all I heard was you mocking me," Seb said with a smile, glancing at Susan.

"Fine, I won't mock you anymore. I'm heading upstairs," Susan said, standing up to leave.

But then, Seb grabbed her wrist.

Looking down, Susan saw Seb smiling, showing off his white teeth. "I'm so used to your mockery. If I don't hear it, I feel weird!"

Susan smiled and sat back on the sofa. "Alright, I'll keep mocking you, but what should I mock you about?"

"You sit here and think about it. I'll play with my daughter for a bit," Seb said, kissing Spring on the cheek.

Watching them, Susan propped her head on her arm, a happy smile already on her face.

During dinner, Seb suddenly dropped the bomb, "Hey, I gotta go on a business trip for a few days starting tomorrow. You should visit Dad more often while I'm gone."

Susan frowned, "Where you headed? And how long you gonna be gone?"

Seeing her pout, Seb chuckled, took her hand, and explained, "Our wedding's in like a week, and then it's honeymoon time. I'll probably take some time off, so I need to check out the nearby projects real quick so I can chill and be with you."

Susan sighed in relief, blushing a bit. "Don't worry about the hospital. I'll go there every day to check on things."

Speaking of the hospital, Seb added, "Oh, by the way, I hired a caregiver for Dad a few days ago. Talked it over with him. Once he gets used to the caregiver, your mom won't need to go there anymore."

Susan felt a bit better but still worried. "Will your mom be cool with that?"

Seb hesitated, "I've already talked to Mom. She's in a cold war with Dad right now, and Rylee's only coming back a few days before the wedding. So, she'll come to Maple Valley with Rylee and her husband. Your mom's been working too hard lately. Both Dad and I are super grateful and feel bad, so let's not have her take care of Dad anymore. Plus, as the mother-in-law, she's got a big role to play and needs to prep for the wedding."

Susan nodded, "Got it."

Later that night, Susan leaned against Seb's chest and softly asked, "How many days will it take to check out all the projects?"

"Three to four days," Seb replied after thinking for a moment.

"That long?" Susan pouted.

Seb looked down at her, stroked her long hair, and smiled, "You can't stand being without me for a few days?"

"I want you with me every day," Susan said, rubbing her face against his chest.

As she kept rubbing, Seb's breathing got a bit uneven.

"I'll be with you every day when I get back," Seb said, kissing her cheek.

For some reason, the thought of Seb going on a business trip made Susan feel uneasy and reluctant to let him leave her side for even a moment. Maybe it was because she had become too accustomed to his presence recently. The thought of him leaving, even for a few days, made her feel uncomfortable.

Seeing her silent, Seb flipped over and pinned her beneath him.

"What are you doing?" Susan exclaimed softly.

With a burning gaze, Seb looked down at her and said, "I'll be gone for a few days, so I need to make it up to you tonight."

Hearing this, Susan's mouth curved into a shy smile.

He reached out and turned off the wall lamp, plunging the room into darkness.

As the light went out, Susan could no longer suppress her feelings. She reached out, wrapped her arms around his neck, and arched her body towards him.

Feeling her passion, Seb became even more excited, and soon the bed was shaking.

Susan couldn't help but remind him in his ear, "Be gentle. Spring's room is downstairs, and Mary will hear us!"

Seb looked up innocently at Susan in the dark and said, "Mary's been living apart from her husband for a long time. You worried she can't handle it?"
