Chapter 1201 I Won't Fall in Love with Another Woman
Cecilia had no idea how she got to the magazine office. Sitting at her desk, she was in shock and confusion for most of the day. Forget about working; she couldn't even focus.
Near the end of the workday, she called Barry and told him she had plans to have dinner with a colleague.
She knew she was in a terrible mental state today and didn't want him to notice, so it was best to avoid seeing him.
After work, Cecilia went straight home.
She threw herself onto the bed. She hadn't eaten much all day and wasn't hungry. Her mind was filled with images of Daryl.
That night, she couldn't sleep at all. She dozed off briefly at dawn but had a nightmare.
In the dream, Daryl was still covered in blood, calling out to her. She woke up scared.
Drenched in cold sweat, she took a hot shower, which made her feel a bit better.
Sitting on the bus, she was lost in thought.
As she neared the magazine office, she called Douglas.
"Miss Thorne, have you made up your mind?" Douglas was very pleased to receive Cecilia's call.
Cecilia replied, "Douglas, I have a boyfriend now. It's impossible between Daryl and me."
Douglas fell silent upon hearing this.
Cecilia continued, "But since Daryl and I know each other, I'm willing to persuade him to live well in the future."
Douglas said, "Alright, Miss Thorne, I'll arrange it right away. Please wait for my call."
"Okay," Cecilia nodded and hung up the phone.
After hanging up, Cecilia gazed out the bus window, lost in thought.
She knew she still couldn't let go of Daryl, especially after hearing about all the hardships he'd faced. She had already forgiven him for his coldness and indifference that day. He had suffered too.
But fate had its way. She had already accepted Barry, who was very kind and treated her so well. She couldn't let Barry down.
As for her and Daryl, the past was the past. They were from two different worlds, and even if they were together, they wouldn't be happy.
But she couldn't ignore Daryl's well-being. She hoped he would live well in the future and find someone he loved to spend his life with.
Thinking of this, her eyes welled up with tears. She had to make choices.
At three in the afternoon, Cecilia received a call from Douglas and then headed to the hospital.
When she arrived at the inpatient building, she saw Douglas, who had been waiting for a long time.
Seeing Cecilia, Douglas stepped forward and smiled, "Miss Thorne, Mr. Fields is very happy to know you're coming to see him."
Cecilia nodded. She thought, If he knew her true intentions, he would probably be very disappointed. She wondered if Douglas had revealed her intentions to him.
Douglas apologized, "Miss Thorne, you know Mr. Fields' parents don't know about you, so you can only visit when they're not around. I hope you understand."
Cecilia smiled slightly, "I understand."
No wonder Douglas had to arrange her visit. She was indeed a secret in the Fields family. But she didn't want to meet them anyway. After today, she and Daryl would truly be strangers.
"Mr. Fields is preparing to be discharged today, so don't worry," Douglas said.
"Okay," Cecilia nodded.
Douglas then led Cecilia to Daryl's hospital room.
Inside the bright and clean room, Daryl had already changed out of his hospital gown. He was wearing a white shirt and black trousers, had shaved, and his hair was neatly combed. He looked quite well, except for a bandage on his forehead, making it hard to believe he had just been in a car accident.
When the door opened, Daryl immediately got up from the bed. Seeing Cecilia walk in, he quickly stepped forward and grabbed her shoulders!
"Cecilia, you're here?" Daryl's eyes were filled with joy, as if he wanted to embed Cecilia into his eyes.
Cecilia had thought their reunion would be awkward, but his enthusiasm caught her off guard.
Douglas quickly said, "Mr. Fields, I'll go handle your discharge paperwork."
With that, Douglas left the room and closed the door.
Cecilia uncomfortably shrugged her shoulders.
Daryl quickly let go of her shoulders and nervously said, "I'm sorry, I'm just so happy to see you."
She took a step back, putting some distance between herself and him.
Daryl quickly said, "Let's sit and talk."
She glanced at the chair by the bed and sat down, while he sat on the edge of the bed, about 1.5 feet away from her.
After a while, she looked up at him. Although he was thinner and had a wound on his forehead, he seemed to be in good spirits, which made her feel relieved.
"Why don't you take care of yourself and live well?" Cecilia's eyes met Daryl's, and their gazes were filled with complex emotions.
Her words were tinged with both complaint and concern. Before coming, she had told herself to stay rational and not show any lingering feelings. But now, seeing him, she couldn't control her words.
He gazed at Cecilia for a long time before answering, "How can I live well without you?"
She felt a wave of sadness wash over her, and she turned her face away. "Without me, you still have your family, your career, your friends. You have so much. You'll meet someone who loves you, and whom you love in the future!"
He could no longer control his emotions. He stepped forward, grabbed her shoulders, and lifted her from the chair.
"Cecilia, I'm telling you, I will never love another woman but you. You are the only one I've ever loved!" Daryl's voice was loud, his expression and tone leaving no room for doubt.
Seeing the determination in his eyes, her tears suddenly overflowed. She said sadly, "We can't be together."
"Are you still angry with me? I know I wronged you. I know I did many things that hurt you, but I realize my mistakes now. I had my reasons," his eyes were filled with deep pain.
