Chapter 1370 She Can Live with Dignity
Hearing this, Azalea said, "Thaddeus is only a year and a half old. You'll have plenty of time to spend with him and show him love. But you can't let him grow up in a home with just one parent, right? Thaddeus is too young to understand now, but one day he will."
Daryl frowned and hesitated for a long time before saying, "Mom, I get what you're saying."
Azalea looked at Daryl urgently and said, "Since you get it now and know you wronged Cecilia, and you know Thaddeus needs a normal family, why are you still sitting here? Go and bring her back!"
Daryl looked troubled and said, "Mom, I misunderstood Cecilia too deeply before. I hurt her too much. She probably won't forgive me."
Daryl's eyes were filled with pain and helplessness.
"You haven't even tried. How do you know she won't forgive you?" Azalea frowned.
"I don't have the right to go find her," Daryl said, covering his face with his hand.
Seeing Daryl's pain, Azalea felt a pang of heartache. She stood up and patted Daryl's shoulder. "Cecilia is a good woman. I bear a lot of responsibility for what happened before. With my health now, I don't know how much longer I have. I just hope you and your brother can find your life partners. Elijah has found his happiness, but I'm most worried about you. How can you and Thaddeus manage without someone to care for you?"
"Mom, don't worry. I know what I need to do," Daryl said, holding his mother's hand.
"Good," Azalea nodded.
The weather was getting colder. By nine o'clock at night, it was already dark outside, and there were fewer people on the streets.
After locking up the store, Cecilia smiled at Calliope and said, "Be careful on your way home."
"You too, boss," Calliope replied with a sweet smile before they parted ways.
Cecilia watched Calliope leave before turning and walking in the opposite direction.
To make it easier to manage her business, Cecilia had rented a small apartment less than five minutes' walk from the café.
Even though it was nine o'clock and the north wind was howling, there were still people on the streets, so it wasn't too scary.
As she walked, Cecilia suddenly felt like someone was following her.
This wasn't the first time. For the past few days, she had felt like someone was tailing her. She thought it might be her imagination, maybe she was just being paranoid.
But the feeling grew stronger. Cecilia suddenly turned around.
There was nothing but darkness behind her.
Shaking her head, she quickened her pace, almost running to her apartment building.
She quickly pulled out her keys and opened the door. Just as she stepped inside, she heard a noise behind her. Fearfully, she turned to look.
There was indeed a figure behind her, and her legs went weak.
Sensing her fear, the person frowned and said, "Don't be scared, it's me!"
Recognizing the familiar voice, Cecilia saw Daryl's face under the dim hallway light.
Seeing it wasn't a criminal, Cecilia let out a sigh of relief, but Daryl's sudden appearance still shocked her.
She quickly composed herself and coldly asked, "Have you been following me these past few days?"
Her accusatory tone left Daryl speechless for a moment. After a brief hesitation, he said, "I didn't want to disturb you, so I didn't show myself."
Cecilia scoffed, "Well, you did disturb me, and you scared me half to death!"
"I'm sorry, Cecilia. I didn't mean to," Daryl apologized sincerely.
Cecilia noticed that Daryl's demeanor was completely different from before.
He used to be cold and distant, but today, his eyes were sincere, and his attitude was humble, as if he was afraid of upsetting her.
For a moment, Cecilia was puzzled. Had he changed?
But regardless of whether he had changed, Cecilia didn't care to find out.
"Fine, I accept your apology. Just don't follow me or bother me again. Thanks," she said coldly, turning to go inside and close the door.
In a panic, Daryl reached out to stop the door from closing.
"Cecilia, can we talk?" Daryl pleaded.
Cecilia paused, then coldly replied, "We have nothing to talk about."
She tried to close the door again.
Daryl held the door and urgently explained, "Cecilia, I know I misunderstood you. It was all my fault. Please forgive me!"
Cecilia was taken aback.
Her emotions were a mix of feelings. She knew that one day the truth about her and Elijah would come out, and Daryl would realize they were innocent.
Cecilia's sharp eyes bore into Daryl. Now he finally understood, but it was too late.
She sneered, "Daryl, you admit you were wrong?"
"Cecilia, I really know I was wrong. Please give me another chance," Daryl pleaded, his eyes filled with guilt.
Cecilia smirked, "Do you think people will wait for you forever? Daryl, you're still as arrogant and self-righteous as ever. Let me make it clear: we're divorced. We have no relationship anymore. You don't owe me, and I don't owe you. Apart from Thaddeus, we're just strangers!" She pushed Daryl away and slammed the door shut.
As the door closed, tears streamed down Cecilia's face.
For over two years, she had endured false accusations. Today, she finally cleared her name.
Wiping her tears, Cecilia forced a smile. She wouldn't cry. She should be happy. From now on, she could live her life with dignity.
