Chapter 706 Unfinished Feelings
With the misunderstanding cleared up, Susan felt both physically and mentally relaxed. Coupled with their lovemaking twice in a row, the direct result was that she overslept the next day.
In her sleep, Susan felt someone kiss her on the cheek.
"Breakfast is in the thermos, I'm heading out."
Hearing Seb's deep voice in her ear, Susan mumbled a response but couldn't open her sleepy eyes.
These past two days had been exhausting, and severely sleep-deprived, Susan really couldn't get up. Even though she knew he was leaving, she couldn't muster the energy.
Soon, there was no sound in her ears, and Susan turned over and continued to sleep.
When Susan woke up naturally, she opened her eyes and saw that the clock on the wall showed it was already ten o'clock!
The next moment, Susan sat up abruptly.
Recalling his voice in her ear that morning, Susan quickly threw on a nightgown and ran out of the bedroom barefoot.
Sure enough, he had already left. Although this apartment wasn't big, it suddenly felt empty.
Feeling a bit cold, Susan casually grabbed a suit jacket of Seb's hanging on the coat rack and sat down at the dining table.
She took the thermos on the table, unscrewed the lid, and looked inside. The aroma of sandwiches hit her nose, and there was also a cup of steaming hot milk.
Then, Susan sat at the dining table enjoying the delicious sandwich, her face full of sweetness.
By the time Susan arrived at the office, it was already past eleven. As soon as she entered her office, Isabella walked in and closed the door.
Hanging her coat on the rack, Susan glanced at Isabella and smiled. "Had a sweet date last night?"
Isabella, however, looked Susan up and down and said, "You too, it seems."
Susan's face blushed instantly, and she quickly changed the subject. "The case I'm working on is almost done. How about yours?"
"I finished mine yesterday, okay? When have I ever delayed my work? Even though I was a little late today," Isabella said with a smile, gesturing with her fingers.
"Good to hear it's done," Susan nodded.
Then, Isabella frowned and said, "Leon said that Prosperity Group is holding an emergency board meeting today. Apparently, Andrew proposed to remove the CEO."
Hearing this, Susan was stunned on the spot!
But thinking about it, it was expected. Andrew had already inherited Rylee's shares and vast fortune, and he had always coveted the position of CEO of Prosperity Group.
'It is just unexpected that he acts so quickly. But now is indeed the best time, as rumors are swirling outside that Seb is indulging in debauchery. Recently, both major and minor newspapers have been publishing articles about him angrily hitting Andrew, clearly instigated by someone with ulterior motives.' she thought.
No wonder Seb left so early this morning; he went to the emergency board meeting. Susan couldn't help but feel a bit worried.
Susan glanced at the clock on the wall; it was already half-past eleven. The meeting should be over by now. What was the outcome?
Seb's mood hadn't been great lately. Susan worried if Andrew got his way, could Seb handle it?
Seeing Susan frowning with worry, Isabella said, "Stop worrying. I'll call Leon to find out the details."
Hearing this, Susan smiled slightly, but she was still anxious inside.
Then, Isabella made a call to Leon. The call lasted a long time, a good ten minutes, and finally, Isabella hung up with a smile.
"How did it go?" Susan asked eagerly after Isabella hung up.
At this moment, Isabella crossed her arms and said, "Didn't you and Seb get divorced? Why are you so anxious? Seems like you still have feelings for him, huh?"
Hearing Isabella's teasing, Susan rolled her eyes at her and said, "Fine, don't tell me then. It has nothing to do with me anyway!"
After saying that, Susan picked up her cup and turned to get some water.
A minute later, when Susan returned with her cup, she found that Isabella was no longer in her office.
Susan knew that chasing after her to ask would only lead to more teasing, so she simply sat down in her swivel chair to work.
But how could she focus on work? She was still very worried.
At this moment, the office door was pushed open, and Isabella came in with a lunchbox. "Were you getting anxious? I went to buy lunch."
Susan knew Isabella was messing with her and said with a stern face, "I'll give you one more chance. If you don't tell me, your year-end bonus will be halved!"
Seeing Susan getting anxious, Isabella smiled and waved her hand. "Alright, alright, I'll stop teasing you. Let me tell you, Seb is really something. His thinking is different from ordinary people. No wonder he can make Prosperity Group thrive!"
"What do you mean?" Susan looked at Isabella, puzzled.
"It seemed like Andrew had him backed into a corner, demanding his removal as CEO," Isabella explained. "But you know what Seb did? He went into that meeting and, before Andrew could even make his move, presented a detailed report outlining Prosperity Group's key projects for the next year. He convinced those stuffy board members that the company is on track for significant growth. Plus, Seb's been with Prosperity Group for years. He's got allies on that board. With their support, his project report was practically unanimously approved. Andrew didn't even get a word in edgewise."
Hearing this, Susan was overjoyed.
In her happiness, Susan thought about Seb's recent behavior and couldn't help but say, "Could it be that his recent actions were all to mislead Andrew?"
"Exactly!" Isabella nodded immediately and explained, "Leon was really worried, but even he was kept in the dark. Seb seemed to be drinking every night, but it was all to mislead his opponent! Hmph, an opponent like Andrew is no match for Seb."
"Why do you suddenly seem to admire Seb? Weren't you the one always criticizing him?" Susan laughed.
"I criticized him for your sake, okay? Now that he's done well, can't I praise him a bit?" Isabella retorted defensively.
