Chapter 639 Sneaky
Upon hearing this, Seb couldn't help but curl his lips. "I would never be mad at Rylee."
"Are you mad at Andrew?" Susan's eyes fixed on Seb.
As soon as Seb's gaze met Susan's, the elevator suddenly made a frightening noise!
"What happened?" Susan's eyes scanned the elevator in fear, unsure of what had gone wrong.
"Probably a malfunction..." Seb hadn't finished his sentence when the elevator lights went out.
"Ah." Susan, being a woman, couldn't help but scream.
The next moment, a pair of strong arms embraced Susan, and a voice whispered in her ear, "Don't be afraid, I'm here!"
"Okay." Although the boundless darkness brought fear to Susan, she had been through so many things and wouldn't lose control over a sudden elevator malfunction.
However, Seb's words, "Don't be afraid, I'm here!" gave her immense comfort, and she naturally rested her face on his chest.
His embrace was still as broad and warm as ever. Once in his arms, Susan felt much more at ease.
At this moment, Seb had already thrown his cigarette to the ground and tightly wrapped his arms around her waist, his chin habitually resting on her forehead.
Susan could hear his heartbeat; she knew him too well. His heart was definitely beating faster than usual.
He still had feelings for her. Confirming this again, Susan felt a sense of satisfaction.
What did Carol's dying words, the divorce, or Rylee's accusations matter?
At least for now, she had him completely; at least for now, she could still lean on his chest.
Everything else could wait until the elevator doors opened. For now, they just needed to hold each other!
Neither of them spoke a word; they just held each other tightly for a full two minutes until Susan finally lifted her head.
Despite the darkness, she looked up and said, "The elevator must be stuck on a floor. Should we call for help?"
Although Susan didn't want the elevator doors to open, she knew it would eventually, and it wouldn't take long.
"This elevator is too well-sealed, so there's no signal." Seb took out his phone, and sure enough, the screen showed no signal.
Susan then took out her phone, and it was the same—no signal at all.
As they held up their phones, the bright screens illuminated their faces, allowing them to see each other clearly. Their eyes met once again.
Seb held his phone in his left hand, his brows furrowed tightly, his deep eyes fixed on Susan. His gaze was intense, a mixture of tenderness and possessiveness that sent a shiver down her spine.
The next moment, he reached out his right hand, paused in the air, and then gently touched her cheek.
His fingertips lightly brushed her skin, making her feel a tickle.
How did they get to this point? They loved each other deeply, yet couldn't be together. Being with him meant facing inner torment and family rejection.
Susan had been holding back, but tears still streamed down her face.
Feeling the warmth of her tears, he gently wiped them away with his thumb.
His tenderness broke Susan's heart, and she could no longer hold back. She threw herself into his arms once again!
"Seb, how did we end up like this?" Susan cried in his arms.
He stroked her hair, his touch soothing. "Maybe even fate is jealous," he murmured, his voice laced with a weary acceptance. "Maybe it was never meant to be easy."
"But this…" Susan choked back a sob. "This destroyed us."
"No one can end our relationship. We still love each other deeply." Seb gently stroked the back of Susan's head.
Hearing this, Susan quietly lay in his arms, feeling that he was right. Fate might keep them apart, but it couldn't extinguish the love that burned between them.
The next moment, Seb held Susan's shoulders, pushed her away, and, under the light of the phone screen, looked deeply into her eyes and asked, "Tell me the truth. You have nothing to do with George, right? The child you lost from the ectopic pregnancy was conceived before our divorce, wasn't it?"
Hearing his question, Susan knew she couldn't hide it any longer. After the last lesson, she couldn't use George as a cover anymore. Seb was too domineering; she couldn't let innocent people get involved.
So, the next moment, Susan nodded and said, "To be precise, it was conceived the night before our divorce."
Hearing this, Seb was visibly shocked. He was silent for a while, probably recalling that passionate night before their divorce.
"How could it be such a coincidence?" Seb's expression was filled with regret and sorrow.
Susan understood that losing this child made him very sad too.
She was also sad, but it was in the past. She stroked his chest and said, "This child wasn't meant to be with us. She should be doing well in heaven. Let's just bless her in our hearts."
Seb nodded and then said, "I knew the child was mine. You were just forcing me to give up on you. You always use this trick, and it always works."
Susan frowned and said, "If you knew I did it on purpose, why did you target George so much? You almost ruined him. That was too harsh."
Seeing the reproach in Susan's eyes, Seb sneered, "Do you really see me as such a ruthless and unscrupulous person?"
Hearing this, Susan couldn't help but question, "Wasn't it you who did that?"
Seeing the doubt in Susan's eyes, Seb curled his lips and sneered, "I have never liked sneaky tactics. I could crush him openly, with a snap of my fingers. I don't need such despicable means!"
