Chapter 401 Separation
From that point on, Susan did everything she could to dodge being alone with Seb.
When he headed to the central district, she’d stick around the house more, hanging out with Hayden and Spring. And when he got back, Susan would be all over the place, sometimes even crashing at Isabella's, claiming she was swamped with setting up the accounting firm.
When she couldn't avoid it, it felt like she and Seb were just two strangers sharing a bed. The old spark was totally gone.
That night, after Hayden and Spring were out cold, Susan took a shower and came out in her robe.
Just as she got to the bed, Seb's strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind!
She tensed up, her body going stiff.
"What's up?" Seb, sensing her resistance, frowned.
"I'm just really tired," Susan faked a yawn.
Lately, she’d been dodging intimacy with him, using every excuse in the book, even her period. Tonight, she had no out and just claimed she was exhausted.
Seb wasn’t giving up, kissing her neck a few times and whispering in her ear, "How long has it been since we were together? Don’t you miss me?"
Ever since she saw him having dinner with some young girl in the central district, Susan had been ice-cold towards him, while Seb acted like nothing had changed.
It seemed like Leon hadn’t spilled the beans. Honestly, Susan hadn’t figured out what to do yet, maybe because she didn’t want to face it. But she couldn’t shake it off.
Susan didn’t respond to Seb’s affection at all, pushing him away and saying, "Seb, I’m really tired and not in the mood!"
With that, she turned and got into bed.
Seeing Susan so cold, Seb was confused.
He sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to hold her hand. "Have I been too busy lately and neglected you?"
"No, I’ve been pretty busy too," Susan turned over, avoiding his gaze.
But Seb was persistent, leaning close to her ear. "No, something’s off with you. Did I mess up? Forget something important? I’ve been really busy. If I forgot something, you gotta tell me!"
At this moment, Susan felt Seb’s hypocrisy.
He could be all lovey-dovey with that young girl, running to the central district for her every few days. But when he came back, he acted like the perfect husband, as if nothing had happened.
'Seb, what’s your deal? Do you not want to get married and just want to mess around? Do you want to marry that young girl instead?' Susan thought.
Thinking of this, Susan’s heart felt like it was being ripped apart, making it hard to breathe.
Then, Susan decided she couldn’t keep pretending. Even though she didn’t want to give up this cozy family of four, she wasn’t born to act!
The next moment, Susan suddenly sat up.
She stared intently at Seb and said, "I think the one who's been off lately is you, right?"
"What do you mean by that?" Seb hesitated for a moment, then frowned and asked.
Susan couldn't help but sneer, "Seb, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Quit the act, okay? You're coming off as super fake!"
"Fake?" Seb was taken aback for a second, then laughed angrily, "You’re calling me fake?"
Seeing him still putting on a show, Susan raised her chin and said, "Alright, let me jog your memory. Why have you been running to the central district every few days lately?"
Seb's arrogance deflated instantly.
Seeing him go silent, Susan sneered, "Why so quiet? Did I hit the nail on the head?"
Seb's hands were all tangled up, looking seriously troubled. "Susan, just give me some time, and I'll give you a reasonable explanation."
Hearing this, Susan nodded with difficulty. "Fine, I'll wait for your explanation. But until then, we're sleeping in separate rooms."
With that, Susan got out of bed, slipped on her shoes, and walked out.
After a few steps, her wrist was grabbed from behind.
"Where are you going?" Seb's brows were furrowed tightly.
"I'm going to sleep in the guest room!" Susan forcefully shook off Seb's hand and then left the master bedroom.
Lying in the guest room, Susan had locked the door. She didn't want him barging in and making things even messier.
Staring blankly at the ceiling, Susan wondered what he meant by a "reasonable explanation."
What kind of reasonable explanation? Was he already planning a wedding with that young girl? Was he going to break the news to her?
Thinking of this, Susan felt both angry and sad.
But thinking of the two kids sleeping downstairs, she knew it wasn't the time to wallow. She had to get the accounting firm up and running, so she could fight for custody of the kids in the future.
The next day, Susan threw herself into work, and finally, after half a month, her accounting firm officially opened!
Susan, Isabella, Maria, and two other employees formed a small team.
On the opening day, Susan wore a burgundy suit, looking both professional and festive.
Isabella walked in from outside, complaining, "Can you believe it? We're opening today, and the place across from us is also opening. I think Amelia is doing it on purpose!"
Susan looked out through the glass door and saw that the place across from them was indeed bustling with people, with various flower baskets at the entrance.
"It's a sunny day today. Are we the only ones allowed to open? Others can't open their businesses?" Susan said with a light smile.
Isabella glanced at the flower baskets and pouted. "Bringing so many people and flower baskets, it's like they're trying to show us up."
Susan didn't seem to mind. She looked at the people coming in and out of Amelia's store and said, "They're opening an insurance company, so they need the crowd. Anyone who goes in might buy insurance. We're an accounting firm. If people don't need our services, they won't come in even if you invite them."
"But we don't have a single flower basket at our entrance. It looks too deserted. Should I go buy a few to make it look better?" Isabella whispered.
"I don't think that's necessary," Susan found it a bit absurd.
