Chapter 477 Respectful and Deferential

Right then, the car whipped into the driveway, making a sharp turn.

Susan totally lost her balance and instinctively grabbed onto Seb's neck.

Seb glanced down and chuckled. "You throw yourself at me the second you get in the car?"

Susan blushed, knowing he was just messing with her. This time, she decided to roll with it. Instead of letting go, she tightened her grip around his neck and lifted her chin. "What? Can't I?"

"Of course you can. I'm honored," Seb replied with a smirk.

"Honored? Nah, you should be in awe of me, totally respectful and deferential!" Susan's eyes sparkled with mischief as she stared at him.

Hearing this, Seb tilted his head, thought for a sec, then leaned in close to her ear and whispered, "Seems a bit improper to do this here. How about we see who's really in charge tonight in bed?"

Susan's face turned even redder at his words, and she couldn't hold back anymore. She playfully slapped him. "Get away!"

"You said it yourself, 'Just wait till next time,'" Seb's voice was low, just for the two of them in the back seat. His eyes had that mischievous glint, and his voice was a bit hoarse.

Susan felt the vibe was getting too intimate, her face burning, especially with Leon driving up front.

So, the next moment, Susan let go of his neck and scooted a bit away from him, sitting upright. "Shouldn't we grab some food before we go see Dad?"

"Of course." At that moment, as if in sync with Susan, Seb also got serious and even checked his watch.

Susan glanced at him and saw him loosening his tie and swallowing hard, his brows slightly furrowed.

Afraid he'd catch her watching him struggle, Susan quickly looked away.

Then, she turned her face towards the window and chuckled to herself, knowing Seb couldn't see her expression.

Susan got what he was holding back. She was also a bit flustered by him. Isabella was right; their feelings were so intense that it could easily spark if they weren't careful.

Pressed for time, Seb and Susan hit up a fast-food joint for a quick bite.

The place was packed at this hour. They ate in the main hall, which was unusual for Seb, who usually liked quiet spots. This time, for some reason, he picked a bustling place full of people.

After eating, Seb took Susan straight to the hospital.

Once they got out of the car, Seb walked ahead, and Susan followed him into the hospital.

It was weird. Usually, they’d walk close or joke around, but Seb seemed super serious, talking to her all formal. Susan was puzzled.

In no time, Seb and Susan arrived at Todd's ward.

Before Seb could open the door, it swung open from the inside. Catherine came out, holding a tray of used dishes.

"Mom, did Dad finish eating?" Susan stepped forward and asked.

"Yeah, I'm gonna wash the dishes," Catherine replied.

"Mom, let me help you," Susan quickly offered, trying to grab the tray from Catherine.

But Catherine shook her head and frowned. "No need, my hands are already dirty. You two go on in."

"Okay." Seeing Catherine insist, Susan didn't push it.

"Mom, thanks for all you do!" Seb said sincerely.

Catherine smiled at his words. "It's nothing. Go on in. Todd will be happy to see you."

With that, Catherine turned and headed to the washroom to clean the dishes.

Watching Catherine leave, Susan felt a pang of guilt. It was her fault that Catherine had to endure so much.

Then, Seb and Susan walked into the ward.

Seeing them, Todd's face lit up.

"Dad, feeling any better?" Susan asked with a smile.

Todd laughed. "Much better. Everything's fine except for my leg."

"Dad, I talked to the doc. You need to stay in the hospital for twenty days, then move to a rehab center. They'll help you with rehab training. You'll need to stay there for about two to three months before you can come home," Seb explained.

Susan knew Seb was prepping him mentally. Staying in the hospital and rehab center for a hundred days was a long haul and could drive anyone nuts.

Todd got Seb's drift and laughed. "Don't worry. I find it quite peaceful here. Without your mom nagging, I actually want to stay longer!"

His words made Seb and Susan laugh.

Then, Todd looked at Susan and said, "It's just hard on Catherine, having to take care of me every day."

"Dad, it's my fault you got hurt. My mom is making up for my mistake," Susan felt both guilty and sorry for Catherine.

"Don't say that. Once Carol calms down in a few days, I'll talk her into letting Catherine go home. We can hire a caregiver," Todd said.

"Thanks, Dad," Susan nodded.

At this moment, Todd smiled. "But Susan, Catherine's cooking is amazing. The soup she made is even better than what we can buy outside."

Hearing this, Susan smiled. "My mom's the best at cooking."

Just then, Catherine came in with the cleaned dishes.

"Seb, don't worry. I think your dad is fine now. He just needs to heal his leg," Catherine said with a smile while peeling an apple.

"It's because of your good care, Mom," Seb nodded.

Catherine quickly peeled an apple and handed it to Todd, who took it naturally and ate it with relish.

Catherine then peeled another for Seb. Susan insisted on taking the knife and peeled one for Catherine and then one for herself.

After hanging out in the ward for a bit, Todd and Catherine urged Seb and Susan to get back to work and not to keep coming to the hospital.

Leaving the hospital building, Seb sincerely said, "If my mom were half as good as your mom, my parents' relationship wouldn't be like this."

"That's because your dad didn't have good taste and didn't find a good woman!" Susan said bluntly.

Seb glanced at Susan and replied, "Your mom didn't have good taste either, marrying James, that jerk."
