Chapter 687 Happy In Love
Seeing Andrew's hesitation, Rylee's face darkened as she said, "Since you can't do it, then we..."
Before Rylee could finish, Andrew quickly said, "I can do it. Not just these two conditions, even twenty or two hundred, I can do it all for you!"
Hearing this, Rylee's anger turned to joy, and a smile appeared on her lips as she placed her hand on Andrew's chest.
Andrew grabbed Rylee's hand and said, "But I need some time. After all, my parents have always been against me going abroad again. I need to persuade them, and there's also the Prosperity Group. You know I've been the vice president for a while now, and there are some things to wrap up."
"Of course, I'll give you a month. Is that enough?" Rylee said understandingly.
"That's enough, more than enough." Andrew nodded quickly, but there was a faint frown on his face.
Seeing him a bit distracted, Rylee touched Andrew's face and asked, "What are you thinking about? Are you reluctant to give up your current wealth and status?"
"No, wealth and status are fleeting. Actually, I think our days in Averlake were more peaceful and quiet. By the way, you haven't seen the flowers you planted. I've been watering and fertilizing them regularly, and some have already bloomed." Andrew quickly changed the subject.
"Really? They've bloomed? Take me to see them right away." Rylee grabbed a nightgown and put it on, then pulled Andrew, who was only wearing pajama pants, out to the balcony.
Standing on the balcony, although shivering from the cold, Rylee smiled brightly at the sight of the blooming and budding flowers.
"They smell so good!" Rylee leaned in to sniff them.
Andrew stood behind her, his expression complex.
After a while, Andrew came out wearing a thick robe and draped another thick robe over Rylee.
"Look at you, running out in this cold weather in a thin nightgown. Be careful not to catch a cold!" Andrew nagged as he thoughtfully tied the robe's belt for her.
Seeing Andrew's concern, Rylee felt a wave of emotion and leaned into his embrace.
Resting her head on his chest, Rylee smiled at the flower buds. "I suddenly feel so happy."
"You will always be happy," Andrew said, stroking her hair, though a hint of ruthlessness flashed in his eyes.
The next day, Andrew's office was filled with smoke.
Andrew sat in his swivel chair, smoking several cigarettes in a row.
Gilbert stood across from Andrew's desk, worriedly saying, "Mr. Martin, Ms. Anderson's conditions are too harsh. Are you really going to compromise? What about the people who follow you?"
After taking a few puffs, Andrew said, "Of course not."
"But you already agreed. And there's only a month!" Gilbert frowned.
"Stalling for time," Andrew said irritably.
"That's not a solution," Gilbert scratched his head.
Andrew stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray. "Without Rylee's shares, my few percent in Prosperity Group won't even get me on the board. I'd just get some annual dividends."
"Then you need to keep Ms. Anderson on your side," Gilbert said anxiously.
Andrew glanced at Gilbert. "I've risked my life to keep her on my side. She doesn't seem as naive as before. I'll just take it one day at a time."
"What if you can't keep her on your side?" Gilbert asked worriedly.
"If I can't?" Andrew frowned, then a ruthless look appeared in his eyes. "Then don't blame me for being ruthless!"
"Our livelihoods, our futures, they depend on you, Mr. Martin. Without you, Mr. Anderson will dismantle everything we've worked for!" Gilbert said nervously.
"Don't worry, stick with me, and I'll make sure you stay secure in Prosperity Group," Andrew said, patting his chest.
In the following days, Susan's life was quite stable.
Seb showed up at her apartment once a week, and she got to see the kids once a week.
The rest of the time, Susan focused on her work, and life was peaceful.
Although Seb found ways to humiliate her weekly, Susan gradually got used to it.
Sometimes, she caught herself thinking, 'Maybe this isn't so bad.' She saw the man she loved, even if it was under these strained circumstances. She saw her children. She had her career, her friends. Was it possible to find happiness in this twisted arrangement?
During lunch break, Isabella walked into Susan's office.
"Why do you seem so quiet lately?" Isabella asked, sitting across from Susan and staring at her.
If she could still be cheerful in her current situation, she would be heartless.
Although her relationship with Seb was complicated, at least she could see the kids every week. Susan worried about the future. It couldn't go on like this forever, could it?
"You're happy in love, always cheerful. I'm unlucky in love, so I bury myself in work. No time for jokes." She tried to sound lighthearted, for Isabella's sake. Seeing her friend unhappy would be unbearable.
Hearing this, Isabella couldn't help but smile. "Hey, do you have to bring me into everything? I'm in my thirties, and it's not easy to find love. You always make fun of me."
"If you don't want me to make fun of you, then get married soon!" Susan laughed.
At the mention of marriage, Isabella frowned. "Someone has to propose first, right? I can't just say, 'Let's get married,' as if I can't find anyone else."
"Honestly, if it weren't for Leon, I don't know who else would be with you!" Susan teased.
"Don't say the same things as Leon! You're killing my confidence," Isabella quickly stopped Susan.
"Okay, okay, I won't say it. But you need to hurry. Leon has everything—looks, wealth. Don't let someone else snatch him away!" Susan couldn't help but tease Isabella.
"Let him go, I say. Maybe I'll find someone even better." Isabella said, pretending to be generous.
"When the time comes, don't cry," Susan said, amused.
"Seriously, how are things with you and Seb?" Isabella asked, concerned.
