Chapter 685 Collapse
Rylee's friend gave her a helpless look and said, "Our families are prominent, Rylee. Divorce is a scandal. Haven't you noticed? Many women from our world, even if their marriages are loveless, they stay together. It's about preserving the family name, the reputation."
"What reputation do we have left? My dad ran off with another woman, my mom is dead, and my brother is divorced," Rylee frowned.
"You and Andrew don't have any major issues. Besides, wasn't he your own choice? Back then, your parents didn't agree, and you were so desperate!" her friend laughed.
"Yes, it was my choice," Rylee said helplessly.
At this moment, her friend glanced back and then tugged at Rylee's sleeve. "Hey!"
Following her friend's gaze, Rylee turned around and saw Andrew standing less than 15 feet away, staring at her blankly. His clothes were no longer as neat and tidy as before, and he looked disheveled.
Seeing Andrew, Rylee frowned and turned to leave.
Andrew quickly caught up and pleaded, "Rylee, can you give me a few minutes?"
"I'm very busy, no time," Rylee said, stepping away.
Her friend quickly grabbed Rylee, glanced at Andrew, and smiled, saying, "Rylee, why don't you listen to what Andrew has to say before you go? Oh, I just remembered I have something to do. I'll leave now!"
With that, her friend waved at Andrew and winked.
Andrew quickly understood and gratefully nodded at Rylee's friend.
"Hey!" Rylee was very annoyed to see her friend leave.
"Rylee, can you please listen to me?" Andrew's brows furrowed, his eyes full of pleading.
"We have nothing to talk about. My lawyer should have contacted you by now, right?" Rylee asked coldly.
"He contacted me an hour ago. I made it clear to him that I will not agree to a divorce!" Andrew said firmly.
Hearing this, Rylee nodded. "Fine, since you don't agree to an amicable divorce, we'll see each other in court!"
With that, Rylee turned to leave.
Andrew reached out and grabbed Rylee's arm, frowning. "Is divorce the only option for us?"
"What else do you think?" Rylee didn't even look at Andrew because seeing him made her heart ache.
Andrew, agitated, grabbed Rylee's shoulders. Rylee's heart skipped a beat, and she looked at Andrew with a pale face.
"Rylee, why won't you listen to my explanation? Yes, I did date Susan before, and yes, I was drawn to the opportunities your family offered, the chance to study at Averlake. I left Susan for you. I admit it! But there's no conspiracy. She hated me for leaving. We haven't spoken in years. We've been in Averlake for five, six years. If there was something going on, wouldn't you have noticed? If I had a hidden agenda, wouldn't I have contacted her by now? Rylee, please, think! Weren't we happy in Averlake? Wasn't I devoted to you?"
Hearing this, Rylee was confused.
When she first met Andrew, she fell for him. They quickly got married and went to Averlake. Those years in Averlake were indeed very happy. If he had another woman in his heart, she really couldn't believe it. But the evidence was there. Could she believe him?
"So, you always loved Susan, right? You were with me just for my family's money. When you were with me, were you always thinking about Susan?" Rylee couldn't get over the fact that Andrew didn't love her, while she had foolishly loved him for so many years and was willing to give up everything for him.
Andrew frowned and stared at Rylee, saying, "Before I married you, I loved Susan. But after we got married and spent time together, I found myself slowly falling in love with you!"
"Do you think I'll believe that?" Rylee's eyes were filled with tears.
"What will it take for you to believe me?" Andrew tightened his grip on Rylee's shoulders.
Rylee didn't say anything, her eyes blank.
Seeing this, Andrew glanced back at the railing behind him. He suddenly let go of Rylee's shoulders and ran towards the railing!
"What are you doing?" Andrew's sudden action startled Rylee.
She then saw Andrew's body go over the railing. This was the fifth floor, and below the railing was a drop of several hundred feet to the ground, with hard floors below. A fall would be fatal!
"Andrew, what are you doing?" Rylee panicked and ran to the railing.
At this moment, Andrew's body was already outside the railing, one hand gripping the railing, the other hand hanging in the air, looking as terrifying as possible.
Usually, just looking down from here would make one dizzy. Now, with Andrew hanging on the railing, Rylee was so scared her legs went weak!
"Andrew, come back!" Rylee's face turned pale.
"Rylee, I know you won't believe anything I say. Without you, what's the point of living? I'll jump from here right now!" Andrew looked at Rylee with sorrow.
Rylee grabbed Andrew's hand and cried, "Don't do anything stupid, come back!"
Seeing Rylee's frightened expression, Andrew's eyes reddened. "If I die, you won't be able to divorce me. I'll always be your husband. Rylee, I only ask one thing of you: visit my grave every year and let me know how you're doing. Then I can die without regrets!"
These words completely broke Rylee's emotional defenses. She cried and held Andrew's hand. "Andrew, I won't let you die! Come back right now, do you hear me?"
