Chapter 1171 You Don't Have to Try So Hard
Exiting the café, Cecilia couldn't help but mentally laugh at herself for putting on a haughty attitude to ask Daryl for help.
Back home, Cecilia opened her closet, unsure of what to wear for the social event.
After a long selection, she could only find a black off-shoulder sleeveless dress among her limited wardrobe.
For tonight's occasion, she couldn't wear a business suit again. This black dress was formal and elegant, not flashy or exaggerated.
As usual, Cecilia tied her long hair into a ponytail, applied a light layer of powder on her face, and looked in the mirror, feeling somewhat satisfied.
Cecilia knew she might drink a lot tonight, so she mentally prepared herself. Even if people made some flirtatious remarks, she had to endure it.
However, she told herself this was the first and last time. If things didn't improve by next month, she would resign immediately.
At 6:30 sharp, Cecilia went downstairs.
Although Cecilia said she would take a cab, Daryl still sent Douglas to pick her up.
Cecilia didn't refuse and got into the car directly.
Once in the car, Cecilia noticed Daryl wasn't there, and she instantly felt relieved.
The car drove quickly and smoothly on the road. Sitting in the passenger seat, Cecilia couldn't help but feel nervous. She had never attended such a sponsorship event before, and what Marcella had told her made her shiver.
Probably noticing Cecilia's nervousness, Douglas explained, "Ms. Thorne, the people invited tonight are long-time friends of Mr. Fields. They know their limits."
Hearing this, Cecilia understood Douglas was trying to reassure her, so she nodded.
About ten minutes later, the car stopped at a seemingly low-key but very high-end private club once inside.
It was very quiet here, with few people coming and going. The facilities inside were exceptionally advanced, and the staff were dressed elegantly. Cecilia realized this was a rumored expensive private club, not accessible to ordinary people.
No wonder Daryl said he wasn't familiar with the place and had Douglas make the reservation. Realizing she couldn't book such an advanced place, she felt like she and Daryl were from two different worlds.
Fortunately, they didn't end up together back then. Otherwise, they would have been incompatible, and their time in Northstar City was just him experiencing life.
Soon, under the guidance of a waiter, Cecilia walked into a private room.
As soon as Cecilia entered the room, the eyes of the men sitting around the round table all turned to her.
Seeing so many eyes on her, Cecilia couldn't help but touch the stray hair by her ear.
At this moment, Daryl, sitting at the head of the table, quickly got up, walked over, and put his arm around Cecilia's shoulder, leading her to the table while saying, "Everyone, this is Cecilia. Please take care of her!"
Upon hearing this, the three men at the table looked Cecilia up and down and then started talking.
"Ms. Thorne, nice to meet you!" said a man in a gray suit, his face full of righteousness. Cecilia somehow felt he was the embodiment of justice.
"Ms. Thorne, I've heard so much about you. It's an honor to finally meet you," said another man in casual wear, exuding a carefree attitude.
"The person who can make Daryl head over heels must be extraordinary," said the third man in a blue shirt, with an air of wealth and nobility.
Blushing at the teasing from the latter two men, Cecilia reminded herself, 'No matter what they say, I must endure it. I am here to secure advertising funds, not to act aloof.'
The next moment, Cecilia politely nodded and said, "Hello, everyone. I'm Cecilia, an editor at Vogue Vista. Please take care of me!"
"Shall we sit?" Daryl's attitude towards Cecilia was very gentle.
Glancing at Daryl's hand on her shoulder, Cecilia frowned slightly.
Daryl then released his hand but still attentively pulled out a chair for Cecilia, placing her next to him.
Soon, the dishes were served, and the men at the table couldn't wait to start drinking.
Although Cecilia rarely attended such events, she knew that toasting was a must, even though she couldn't hold her liquor well.
At this moment, Cecilia suddenly stood up, raised her glass, and said to everyone, "Gentlemen, I appreciate you attending this dinner. I'll drink first as a sign of respect!"
With that, Cecilia tilted her head, intending to down the drink in one go.
Just as the glass was about to touch her lips, an arm reached over and snatched the glass from her hand!
Startled, Cecilia looked up to see Daryl, sitting next to her, had taken her glass. She frowned slightly.
Daryl then raised the glass and said to the other three, "Cecilia can't drink. I'll drink for her tonight. I'll start with this one!"
With that, Daryl downed the drink in one go.
At this moment, one of the three men whistled.
One of them laughed and said, "Interesting. We could never get him drunk before. Today, we have a chance."
George then laughed and said, "Daryl, you should drink all the wine tonight."
"Alright, Daryl, you can toast each of us one by one. By the way, you invited us here to place ads in Vogue Vista, right? Okay, for each drink you take, we'll invest $104,000 in ads. How about that?" Another friend egged on.
"Alright, you said it!" Daryl pointed at the friend firmly.
"Deal!" The friend responded enthusiastically.
Daryl then began to toast each of the three men one by one.
Hearing this, Cecilia was dumbfounded.
Seeing Daryl drink one glass after another, she couldn't help but worry.
"I only need to secure $104,000 in ad funds. It's already more than enough. You don't have to go all out!" Cecilia whispered to Daryl.
Honestly, seeing Daryl drink one glass after another, Cecilia felt a bit concerned.
If something happened to him, she couldn't bear the responsibility.
In any case, Cecilia wouldn't admit she was actually worried about him.
Hearing Cecilia's words, Daryl, in a good mood, said, "These guys have plenty of money. I have to make them spend more tonight!"
