Chapter 1199 Difficulties
That day, Cecilia was restless.
In the evening, Barry came to pick up Cecilia, but she was still absent-minded.
"Cecilia, how about we go on a trip this weekend?" Barry suggested with a smile, noticing Cecilia's low spirits in the passenger seat.
"A trip?" Cecilia asked, frowning.
"There's a nice estate outside Maple Valley with beautiful scenery and some farm-to-table food. The city is too noisy; it would be good for us to relax a bit," Barry said with a smile.
Cecilia nodded and said, "Sure, I'll go with your plan."
Barry was very happy to hear Cecilia agree and immediately started discussing the trip arrangements with her. Cecilia responded, but her heart was filled with worry for Daryl.
That night, Cecilia lay in bed, clutching her phone.
She wanted to call Douglas to ask about Daryl's condition, but she felt she couldn't. What right did she have to ask about Daryl's situation now? She had been so resolute last time.
Half-asleep, Cecilia had a dream.
In the dream, she saw Daryl, covered in blood, running towards her and calling her name.
Even though they were very close, Daryl seemed unable to reach her.
"Ah," Cecilia screamed and woke up from the dream.
Realizing it was just a dream, Cecilia wiped the cold sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand, feeling even more anxious.
Early the next morning, Cecilia headed straight to the hospital, luckily remembering the name of the hospital where Daryl had been taken from the newspaper.
Cecilia first went to the trauma department to ask a female nurse if a patient named Fields had been brought in due to a car accident a few days ago. The nurse refused to answer, saying it was the patient's privacy and she couldn't disclose it unless Cecilia was a family member.
Cecilia had no choice but to leave the inpatient department and wander outside.
After a long time, she looked up and suddenly saw Douglas coming out of the inpatient department. She walked straight over to him.
"Douglas?" Cecilia pretended to run into him by chance.
Seeing Cecilia suddenly, Douglas glanced back at the inpatient department, asking in surprise, "Miss Thorne, what are you doing here?"
Cecilia said, "Well, a friend of mine is hospitalized, so I came to visit."
Douglas gave Cecilia a suspicious look.
Cecilia tentatively asked, "Douglas, why are you here? Who's in the hospital?"
Hearing Cecilia's question, Douglas understood that she wasn't here by chance; she probably knew about Daryl's car accident. But he decided not to reveal this.
Douglas glanced around and then said, "Miss Thorne, do you have time to grab a drink with me? I have something to tell you."
Cecilia nodded.
They left the hospital and sat down at a nearby cafe, ordering two cups of coffee.
Once seated, Douglas got straight to the point, "Mr. Fields had a car accident late the other night."
"How is he now?" Cecilia asked, frowning.
Seeing Douglas's serious expression, her heart started pounding. Was Daryl's condition very serious?
Noticing Cecilia's worries, Douglas quickly reassured her, "Mr. Fields is not in any life-threatening danger, there's no need to worry."
Cecilia breathed a sigh of relief.
Douglas continued, "He only suffered some minor injuries. The doctors did a thorough check-up, and apart from a mild concussion, he's fine. He'll be discharged in a couple of days."
Cecilia noticed Douglas staring at her, feeling that she had betrayed her feelings. Douglas must have realized she had come here on purpose.
Douglas then said, "Although Mr. Fields was lucky this time, it doesn't mean he won't have problems in the future."
Cecilia frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Ever since I gave Mr. Fields what you gave me, his emotions have been very unstable. He works non-stop, skips meals, doesn't sleep properly, and sometimes goes out drinking at night. His stomach is in bad shape now, but he doesn't listen to me and won't let me inform his family. This car accident happened after he went out drinking."
Cecilia's brows furrowed tightly.
Honestly, she hadn't expected to have such a big impact on Daryl. She thought he would quickly forget about her and that another woman would soon come into his life. She hadn't expected him to be like this.
Cecilia's heart was tightly knotted, filled with pain for Daryl. But she also knew she was powerless in this situation. She already had Barry and couldn't betray him.
"If Mr. Fields keeps this up, I'm worried something will happen to him in the future. Miss Thorne, you're the only one who can persuade him now!" Douglas looked at Cecilia with pleading eyes.
Cecilia said with difficulty, "Douglas, I already have a boyfriend now. It's not appropriate for me to go and persuade Daryl. Please understand."
"Are you really with Barry?"
"Yes."
"But the person you truly love is Mr. Fields. You'll regret it in the future," Douglas said urgently.
Cecilia smiled. "I don't love him anymore. I love Barry now."
"If you don't love Mr. Fields, then why did you come to the hospital today? Don't tell me you ran into me by chance. I can see through that. I guess you knew about Mr. Fields' car accident and were worried about him, so you came here pretending to run into me, right?" Douglas's sharp eyes fixed on Cecilia.
Douglas's words left Cecilia speechless for a moment. She then stammered, "You're right. Daryl and I were together after all. I don't want anything to happen to him, but that doesn't mean I still love him."
Douglas lowered his head in thought, then looked up and said, "Miss Thorne, I know there are many things you might still blame Mr. Fields for, but he has his reasons. Since we have this opportunity today, I think it's necessary to share everything with you. It's the only way I can help Mr. Fields right now."
