Chapter 250 Happiness Suddenly Arrives
Even though Susan and George were emotionally close, she still kept some physical distance. Besides kissing and hugging, she hadn't gone further with him. When it came to breastfeeding, Susan was extra cautious about exposing herself.
When George walked into Susan's bedroom, only a dim wall lamp was on, and the room was so quiet they could hear Spring's steady breathing.
Seeing George enter, Susan gently pulled away and tucked Spring in.
George craned his neck to look at the sleeping Spring and whispered, "Spring fell asleep early today?"
"Yeah." Susan nodded with a smile.
Susan chose not to explain why and omitted any mention of her meeting with Seb. She didn't want to worry George or complicate things, especially since Seb and George were on bad terms.
Though George never brought up Seb, Susan knew he was avoiding the topic. It was clear they had issues because of her.
"Did Serenity go home?" George asked, sounding like a husband checking in.
"Tomorrow's New Year's Day. I let her go as soon as I got home," Susan replied.
"Serenity won't be back for four days. You'll have a tough few days," George said with a smile.
"I'm not working, so I can stay home with Spring. Plus, we're going to Saskia's the day after tomorrow," Susan smiled.
"Yeah, Spring will love Saskia's place." George laughed.
Thinking of the cozy courtyard where she stayed during her pregnancy, Susan felt warm. Saskia's place always made her feel good.
"With all the talk about your employees splurging your money, why are you back so early?" Susan teased, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.
George took off his suit jacket, draping it over his arm, and replied, "I don't know why, but now I just want to come home and be with you and Spring after work. The bars and clubs I used to go to give me a headache now. So today, I gave them cash and let them do their thing, but I couldn't join them!"
Hearing this and seeing George's gentle smile, Susan felt a strong desire for a quiet life with him. She no longer wanted the intense love she had with Seb.
"Spending every day with me, you might soon find it boring," Susan said softly.
George stepped forward, held Susan's shoulders, and said seriously, "Watching you every moment, I'd never get bored. In fact, I'd find it more and more interesting!"
Even though Susan knew these were just sweet words, they still comforted her wounded heart and mind. Susan naturally snuggled into George's embrace.
Feeling Susan's rare tenderness, George wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, resting his chin on her forehead, gently rubbing.
"George," Susan called softly.
"Hmm?" George responded gently.
"Let's get married right after the new year," Susan said, biting her lower lip.
George's warm body and broad embrace felt so real, giving Susan a sense of security. She knew if she let George go, she'd never find another man who treated her so well.
Susan wanted to hold on to George, stabilize her and Spring's life. She knew it was a bit selfish since she wasn't entirely with George out of love, and she and Spring were a big responsibility for him. But this was the easiest path for her now.
Deep in her heart, Susan made a silent vow, 'Once I marry George, I will cherish him, care for him, strive to nurture our love, remain faithful, and never let him down.'
"What did you say?" George pushed Susan's shoulders, staring at her in disbelief.
Seeing his astonished look, Susan smiled and repeated, "I said if you're not busy after the New Year, we can get married."
Blushing, Susan nodded as George joyfully said, "Absolutely free! Let's have the wedding in fifteen days!"
"Okay," Susan agreed, seeing George so happy.
George looked deeply at Susan and asked, "Why the sudden change of heart?"
Susan furrowed her brows. She couldn't reveal today's encounter, so she said, "I've thought about it for a long time and realized you're right. Since we've decided to be together, we should settle down quickly."
George smiled and pulled Susan into his arms.
Resting her face against his chest, Susan heard his strong, pounding heartbeat. She knew George's feelings for her were genuine, but Seb's stern face still flashed in her mind. She tried hard to forget Seb, believing that with time, everything between them would fade away.
George embraced Susan tightly, his eyes filled with joy. "Susan, I never expected to be this happy. I promise to take care of you and treat Spring like family. You both mean everything to me now."
He leaned over to Spring, kissed her chubby little face, and his eyes filled with deep fatherly love.
Seeing this, Susan felt comforted. Deeply moved, she stepped forward, hugged George, and kissed him.
George didn't expect Susan to be so proactive. After a moment of surprise, he engaged in a passionate kiss with her.
The room's temperature instantly rose, and the dim wall lamp added a touch of hazy atmosphere. Everything felt so natural.
George gently pushed Susan onto the soft bed. She closed her eyes, still not used to it, but her heart told her, 'It's time, I should fully accept George!'
