Chapter 1001: Not Knowing Whom to Hate

Evelyn looked down and, after a long pause, finally said, "I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" Dermot sneered, wiping his eye. "No need. We never had anything. Now you can take care of whoever you want. What right do I have to interfere?"

Evelyn mumbled, "He saved me."

"Yeah, he saved you! I wish I'd been the one to save you!" Even if it meant being in a wheelchair forever, Dermot wished he had been the one to rescue Evelyn.

Dermot rarely lost his temper, especially in front of Evelyn, but today he couldn't hold it in.

Evelyn agreeing to take care of Joshua meant she wouldn't be with him.

He had been ready to confess his feelings, so how did things end up like this?

After a while, Evelyn composed herself and looked up. "Calm down; it might not turn out that way."

They were already contacting top doctors; maybe there was another way.

"I can't calm down!" Dermot said, turning and leaving the hospital room.

Maybe Evelyn didn't get it, but he had already talked to the doctors about Joshua's condition and knew it was almost impossible to cure.

Even with the best doctors, the chances of recovery were slim. Evelyn taking care of Joshua for the rest of her life was almost certain.

He was consumed by hatred.

But he didn't know who to direct it at.

No one was to blame. The only person Dermot could hate was himself.

If only he had been the one to rush in and save Evelyn. If only he hadn't let Evelyn go to work that day.

Dermot had never felt this heartbroken, not even when he watched his mother die in front of him. He hadn't shed a single tear then.

But now, he was truly sad.

When Todd got Evelyn's call, he was stunned.

"Ms. Kyte, you want me to check on Mr. Doyle? Did something happen to him?" Todd was puzzled. Wasn't Dermot always with Evelyn?

Evelyn didn't know how to explain to Todd. "We had a disagreement, and he left. Go check on him."

Then Evelyn hung up and got up to handle her discharge paperwork.

Todd looked at his phone, confused.

Dermot and Evelyn had a disagreement?

That didn't make sense. With the way Dermot doted on Evelyn, how could they have a disagreement?

Despite his confusion, Todd put away his phone and went to find Dermot.

At the bar, Craig watched Dermot down drink after drink and felt a headache coming on.

In all the time they'd been in Colombia, this was the first time Dermot had asked him to drink, and it was serious.

"What happened?" Craig grabbed his glass, stopping him from drinking more.

At this rate, something bad was bound to happen.

Dermot leaned back on the couch and chuckled, "What could have happened? I just wanted to have a drink with you. What's wrong with that?"

Craig was speechless.

"Is it about Evelyn? That's the only thing that could make Dermot lose his cool like this." Dermot didn't say anything, but a flash of pain crossed his eyes when Craig mentioned Evelyn.

So it was about Evelyn.

Craig sighed, "Did you have a fight with her?"

Dermot didn't respond and wanted to keep drinking.
