Chapter 730 Just Like That

Evelyn glanced at her, feeling utterly exhausted. "You don't have any money, and you're still standing up for Emerald, aren't you?"

"I didn't want to either, but she got my phone number and called me, crying her eyes out. Nathan, after all, trained in martial arts with me. I thought delivering a challenge letter to you wouldn't cost me anything, and I was already planning to move to a different city," Jennifer said.

"Weren't you in Golombia before?" She was a bit surprised.

Jennifer nodded. "I was in a small town before, my hometown. But I really couldn't stay there any longer, so I decided to move to a big city."

She thought there would be a lot of people needing bodyguards in a big city, and maybe she could find a better job here. After consideration, she agreed to help Emerald.

Evelyn nodded, roughly understanding the situation.

"I'll treat you to a meal," Evelyn said.

Jennifer's eyes widened in disbelief. "Really? You're not trying to trick me, are you?"

"Relax, what could I do to you with just one meal?" Evelyn started the car and chose a nearby restaurant.

It wasn't that she couldn't take her home to eat, but Evelyn didn't want Dora to discover Jennifer just yet; she had other plans in mind.

They walked into the restaurant, and Evelyn ordered a private room, then handed the menu to Jennifer. "Order whatever you want."

Jennifer held the menu, looking at the array of dishes, and couldn't help but swallow her saliva.

"Are you really treating?" What if Evelyn ran off after the meal, leaving her here? That would be terrible.

"Relax, you have nothing right now. What could I possibly scam you out of?" Evelyn was speechless. Jennifer was so cautious now, but she hadn't been this cautious in the car earlier.

She thought about it and realized it was true, so she ordered several dishes.

She didn't tell Evelyn that she hadn't just skipped dinner; she had only had instant noodles for lunch and hadn't had a proper meal in days.

It was pitiful to think about. She didn't even know how she ended up in this situation.

But what could she do? She had no education, and the only thing she was good at was her martial arts skills. But what good was that? She couldn't even find a job as a bodyguard.

Before long, the waiter brought the dishes to the table. Before Evelyn could say anything, Jennifer picked up a fork and started eating. "I'm starting to eat."

Evelyn didn't say anything. Seeing Jennifer eat so heartily, she also had a good appetite.

They devoured the meal, finishing all the dishes on the table. Of course, Jennifer ate most of it. Evelyn hadn't expected her to eat so much.

"I'm full." After saying that, she let out a satisfied burp.

Evelyn put down her knife and fork, squinting at her. "Now that you're full, let's talk something serious."

As soon as she said that, Jennifer felt a chill down her spine, especially seeing Evelyn's expression. She had a feeling she was about to be sold off.

"Didn't you say you were treating? You're not going to make me pay now, are you?" Jennifer asked, her eyes full of disbelief.

Evelyn chuckled. "Don't worry, I won't make you pay."

"Oh, that's good." Jennifer breathed a sigh of relief. As long as she didn't have to pay, anything else was fine. After all, she had no money.

"What are your plans for the future? Are you just going to keep drifting like this?" Evelyn looked at her, not beating around the bush, but getting straight to the point.

Plans for the future?

Evelyn's question really stumped her. After thinking for a moment, she slowly said, "What plans could I have? Just keep going, I guess."
