Chapter 1088: Of Course, the Evidence Doesn't Stop Here
Evelyn left the hospital and headed to the Kite Group to see Ruby instead of going back to Joshua's villa.
Ruby was now the general manager of the Kite Group. The Kite family wasn't famous in Golombia yet, but they were on the rise.
Evelyn looked at Ruby, who was rocking a sharp suit and exuding confidence. "Ruby, you're really something now."
She never imagined Ruby would come this far. Life sure was unpredictable.
Just like her own journey—first becoming the daughter of the Kyte family, then handing over the group to someone reliable, thinking she'd finally be free.
But now, Evelyn felt anything but free.
Could she just walk away from it all?
No, she couldn't.
Joshua had saved her life; she couldn't just abandon him.
"Evelyn, you don't look happy," Ruby said, pouring her a cup of coffee and sitting beside her.
Evelyn sighed. She came to Ruby to vent.
She told Ruby about everything that had happened and asked, "Do you think I should go?"
"I don't think you should," Ruby replied. "Joshua saving you doesn't mean you owe him your whole life."
Ruby continued, "If you liked him, that'd be different. But you don't. Taking care of him before was one thing, but going abroad with him now means it's over between you and Dermot."
Evelyn got that.
Ruby held Evelyn's hand. "Evelyn, I know you feel guilty, but you can't just think about others. Think about yourself too."
Ruby made a good point, but Evelyn couldn't just ignore everything.
"But if I don't go, Joshua won't either, and his life will be ruined." Going to find Leon might not cure him, but at least there was a chance. If they didn't go, there'd be no chance at all.
"That's his choice. If he decides not to go, he has to deal with the consequences, not you," Ruby said, disliking how Joshua seemed to be pressuring Evelyn.
After a moment of silence, Evelyn still seemed unsure. Ruby said, "Come on, let's grab dinner."
"Okay," Evelyn agreed, knowing overthinking wouldn't solve anything.
They left the Kite Group. Meanwhile, Dermot was drinking at a bar, with Craig sitting across from him. Neither was in a good mood.
"I found the doctor you asked about," Craig said, tossing a stack of documents in front of Dermot.
Dermot was surprised. He had asked Craig to look into it because he couldn't find any leads himself and didn't expect results.
He opened the documents, and Craig added, "This deal was handled through the black market, which is why you missed it."
Only someone like Craig, with black market connections, could have tracked it down.
"Thanks," Dermot said sincerely after reading the documents.
But Craig didn't seem to care much. He downed a glass of wine. "Even with this, Evelyn might not believe you."
"I know, this is just one piece of evidence," Dermot replied. "The real evidence is the testimony from Joshua's subordinate, which I'm getting tonight."
But to get that person to talk, he had to make him face reality first.
