Chapter 948: About Your Mother
Evelyn was taken aback for a moment before realizing she hadn't misheard. Cliff wanted to talk about her mother.
She was speechless.
Since she returned to the Kyte family and learned her true identity, everyone focused on her father. As Blake was the family head, she naturally became the eldest daughter, and no one cared about her mother.
Cliff was the first to mention her.
"Yes, your mother," Cliff confirmed. "Maybe you think it doesn't matter who she is, but I still want to talk about her."
He knew if he didn't speak now, he'd never get another chance, and Evelyn would never know the truth.
"No, you're wrong," Evelyn interrupted, looking serious. "I care about who my mother is."
Of course, she cared. That was her mother.
Though they'd never met, Evelyn had heard Blake talk about the past and knew her mother left to keep them safe.
So, whenever her mother was mentioned, Evelyn felt a mix of tenderness and longing.
Seeing her reaction, Cliff smiled in relief. "Really? That's great. Your mother would be happy to know that."
Evelyn stayed quiet, listening as Cliff continued, "Your mother's name was Bella Calderon. She was gentle and beautiful."
"To be honest, your father wasn't the first to meet her. I brought her to Golombia, hoping to match her with my son. Even though she was of unknown origin, I had a good feeling about her. I thought my son would be happy with her."
As Cliff reminisced, his gaze drifted. Evelyn listened intently.
"But fate is strange. She and your father met at a party and instantly fell for each other."
"Although I was upset, thinking my son was so great but your mother didn't choose him, I didn't do anything. She was too wonderful, and I couldn't harm her. I just watched as she and Blake fell in love."
Cliff sighed deeply. "Looking back, if I had known what would happen, I would have tried to stop it. Marrying into the Kyte family wasn't easy. How could someone not in control of the Kyte legacy protect your mother?"
At that time, Bella was beautiful but had no powerful background. The Kyte family looked down on her and wouldn't let Blake marry her.
Evelyn didn't know the details, as Blake hadn't told her much, only briefly mentioning the past.
She understood Blake. The more you remember, the more it hurts, especially if you couldn't protect the one you loved.
"I heard your father is looking for her?" Cliff asked, snapping out of his memories.
Evelyn nodded. "Yes, but he hasn't found any leads."
"That's normal. When I found your mother, I also investigated but found nothing," Cliff said. He had to investigate thoroughly since he wanted to match Bella with his son.
"Why are you telling me this today?" Evelyn asked, puzzled.
