Chapter 1041: I'm on Board
Compared to the hustle and bustle here, Dermot's place was way quieter.
He cooked a few hearty dishes himself. It was just him, Henry, and the butler, Bruce, so it was more than enough.
"Bruce, join us," Dermot said, noticing Bruce standing aside after the meal was ready.
In Moris City, Bruce usually got time off to spend New Year with his family. But this year, because of Henry's health, Bruce stayed with them in Golombia.
Though Bruce was the butler, Dermot saw him as family. Bruce had watched Dermot grow up, almost like a grandpa.
Bruce hesitated. "This isn't appropriate."
"Have a seat, it's been so many years; you're family to us," Henry said. With just the three of them, it didn't make sense for Bruce to serve them.
Bruce didn't refuse any further.
Since both Bruce and Henry were older, Dermot didn't prepare any alcohol. He poured juice for everyone. "Let's raise a toast."
Some traditions shouldn't be skipped.
Henry and Bruce exchanged smiles and didn't refuse.
All over Libertonia, similar scenes were playing out. People were eating, drinking, and celebrating the last day of the year.
In the living room, Evelyn was eating and thinking about what Dermot had said earlier. After hesitating, she spoke up, "Dermot invited us to his villa for a New Year's Eve party tonight. What do you think?"
She looked at the others, especially worried about Joshua.
Sensing her tension, Joshua smiled. "That sounds great. It's close by, so we can all go together."
"I'm on board," Aidan said.
"Same here," Niall chimed in, clearly favoring Dermot more than Joshua did.
Seeing everyone agree, Evelyn smiled. "I'll let him know then."
Her happiness was obvious to everyone.
Joshua felt complicated. If it weren't for his injury, he probably wouldn't have had the chance to spend New Year's with Evelyn.
He felt a bit bitter inside but didn't show it.
After dinner, Evelyn and Niall were supposed to wash the dishes, but Lily stopped her. "Evelyn, let Niall and I do it. You go rest."
"Yes, Evelyn, let us handle it," Niall nodded, hoping Lily would gain Evelyn's approval.
Seeing their determination, Evelyn agreed. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. We haven't helped with anything yet," Lily said, feeling a bit embarrassed. Although she could cook, she didn't dare to be alone in the kitchen with Aidan, so she hadn't helped earlier.
With that, the two stayed in the kitchen while Evelyn returned to the living room.
In the living room, Aidan and Joshua sat apart, not looking very familiar with each other.
Evelyn understood why and felt a bit helpless.
Joshua was brought back by Aidan. If it weren't for her, their relationship wouldn't have turned out this way.
"Aidan, Joshua, how about a walk to help with digestion?" Evelyn suggested. The snow had stopped, leaving a thick blanket on the ground that made the scenery look especially beautiful.
