Chapter 1233: You're Really Awake
Evelyn had been hanging out in the hospital room for what felt like forever, saying the same thing over and over: she just wanted Dermot to wake up. She'd do anything he wanted if he just opened his eyes.
After she left Dermot's room, she turned to Todd. "Hey, Mr. Angelo, can you hook me up with a bed in there?"
"Ms. Kyte."
Evelyn was dead serious. "He's my boyfriend. I gotta take care of him." Plus, Dermot got hurt bad protecting her.
When Dermot was stuck in the ICU, Evelyn couldn't do squat for him. Now that she had the chance, she wasn't gonna let it slip.
Todd saw the fire in her eyes and finally caved. "Alright."
Todd went off to sort it out. Ruby, looking kinda exasperated, said, "Dermot's gonna be fine. You don't have to be his nurse."
"I know, but I need to be there." If she wasn't in the same room and something happened, she'd lose it.
Ruby sighed, knowing she couldn't change Evelyn's mind. "Do what you gotta do. You're head over heels for him now, huh?"
Evelyn was caught off guard, then grinned.
Actually, Ruby had it wrong. Maybe she'd fallen for Dermot a long time ago but just hadn't faced it.
Soon enough, they added another bed to Dermot's room, and Evelyn moved in so she could keep an eye on him 24/7.
"Ruby, thanks for looking after me these past few days. I'm good now, so you can head back," Evelyn said.
Ruby frowned, not buying it. "You're not even close to being okay. You can barely stand."
"It's cool. There are nurses here, and now that I'm in this room, how can you take care of me?" Before, Ruby had shared a bed with her at night. They could still do that, but it felt weird with Dermot in the room.
Ruby didn't push it. "Alright, I won't crash your alone time."
"Go on. When I get outta here, I'll treat you to a big meal." Evelyn smiled, super grateful that Ruby had dropped everything to help her out.
Ruby left, and Todd didn't bother them. Evelyn lay on her bed, turning her head to see Dermot on the other side.
"Dermot, please wake up soon," she whispered.
Like he heard her, Dermot woke up that night.
But his injuries were way worse than Evelyn's. After waking up, he could only blink, couldn't even move his hands.
"Todd," he called out softly. He couldn't see Todd, but he knew he had to be around.
Evelyn, half-asleep, heard Dermot's voice and snapped awake.
"Dermot? Are you awake?" She wasn't sure. From her spot, she couldn't see if his eyes were open.
Hearing Evelyn's voice, Dermot was stunned, a bit confused.
He turned his head with effort and saw another hospital bed in the room, with Evelyn lying on it.
"You're really awake!" Evelyn was over the moon and tried to get out of bed, but her leg pain stopped her.
Dermot noticed and quickly said, "Don't move. I'll get Todd."
With that, Dermot pressed the call button by his bed.
