Chapter 822 You Must be a Hopeless Romantic
Natalie's plan worked out in the end. Hubert decided to let her stay not because he liked her but because he didn't want people to think he was scared of Evelyn.
However, Evelyn was unaware of all this at the moment.
After dropping Ruby off, Joshua drove Evelyn to Kyte Manor. "Evelyn, tonight..."
"Joshua, go home and get some rest," Evelyn said with a smile. "I know what you're thinking, but it's not your fault. Don't beat yourself up."
Joshua felt guilty for not rushing in to save her. But for Evelyn, it was actually a blessing in disguise. If something had really happened, she wouldn't be able to repay that favor.
As for Dermot, she could only sigh, unsure of what to say.
"I know you don't blame me, but I blame myself," Joshua said, frustrated he hadn't arrived before Dermot.
Evelyn felt drained and said, "Joshua, it's over. Can we move on? I'm really tired and need to rest."
"Alright, you go in," Joshua nodded, realizing she was exhausted and it wasn't the time to keep talking.
Seeing he had nothing more to say, Evelyn nodded, got out of the car, and walked away.
Joshua watched her leave, his eyes deep in thought.
The next day.
The incident at the Kyte family didn't make the news. Evelyn had made sure to remind all the guests and the PR department to keep it under wraps, and any small rumors were quickly squashed.
She had just taken over the company, and any bad press would destabilize the Kyte Group. She couldn't let yesterday's incident get out.
But she didn't expect that while the incident stayed quiet, Dermot and Margaret's breakup did make the news.
Evelyn looked into it and found someone was pushing it from behind the scenes, which left her disheartened.
Could it be the PR department?
It was an effective way to divert public attention. But Dermot had rushed in to save her last night, and it felt wrong to repay kindness with enmity.
After thinking it over, she called the PR department, but they denied any involvement.
Evelyn was puzzled. If it wasn't her people, then who?
At the Irvine Group, Dermot and Craig woke up after a night of heavy drinking as if nothing had happened.
"The Martin family is already trying to pull the news. Should we keep going?" Craig asked Dermot, who was lounging on the couch.
Dermot nodded. "Keep it up until the afternoon."
"You'd do anything for Evelyn, even use your breakup to cover for her. I wonder if she'll appreciate it." Craig laughed, sending a message.
Dermot smiled indifferently. "It doesn't matter. I'm not doing this for her gratitude."
"Hypocrite. If you didn't want to be with her, would you do this?" Craig called him out.
Dermot thought for a moment and didn't argue. "Even if she doesn't end up with me, I'd still do it."
"Alright, you're head over heels in love with her," Craig mocked.
Not wanting to continue the topic, Craig asked, "How's the progress with the Doyle family? Do we have any confidence?"
He was still worried. Given Irvine Group's current situation, if they really went up against the Doyle family, they wouldn't stand a chance.
