With that in mind, Evelyn had to speak up, trying to get Eugene into the sniper's shooting range.
"Eugene, all you want is for the Roberts family to regain its former glory. That's not impossible," Evelyn said, trying to catch his attention.
Eugene looked at her. "Possible? How?"
"With all these witnesses, I can promise on behalf of the Kyte family that we'll return all the Roberts family's assets to you," Evelyn said.
"The Allen family has no objections either," Wade added. To him, those were just material things, way less important than Evelyn.
Eugene seemed convinced but quickly snapped back. "At this point, what good is it if the Roberts family is restored? If I let you go now, will you let me go?"
He knew the police had surrounded the place. Even if they returned everything to the Roberts family, things could never be the same.
"It may not help you, but the Roberts family has other members. It should mean a lot to them," Evelyn said.
She didn't know if Eugene's actions today were instigated by someone else, but it was likely that only Eugene would be judged in the end. The other members of the Roberts family could enjoy the fruits of his sacrifices.
These words made Eugene pause, deep in thought.
Soon, he found the plan feasible.
Sacrificing himself to bring wealth and glory to the Roberts family was something he was willing to do.
"Are you really willing?" Eugene asked suspiciously.
Wade was a bit exasperated. "With so many people watching, do you think we'd go back on our word?"
Eugene glanced at the crowd, somewhat convinced.
"Write a guarantee." Eugene couldn't think of any other way and finally came up with this idea.
Evelyn was speechless inside, thinking that if they really wanted to go back on their word, a guarantee was useless. The remaining members of the Roberts family wouldn't be able to do anything.
But she didn't say it out loud. At least now, Eugene was considering giving up, and there was no need to anger him.
Blake asked someone to bring a pen and wrote the guarantee in front of Eugene, and then had Wade sign it. He then held up the guarantee, ready to walk towards Eugene.
But when he reached Dermot, Dermot suddenly stopped him. "Let me take it over."

For some reason, Eugene felt a bit scared with Dermot's approach. "You, stay there. Don't come any closer."
Dermot didn't move, standing still. "What are you so afraid of? I don't have a weapon, and I don't want to die with you."
"I warn you, don't play any tricks, or I'll press the button immediately and take Evelyn with me," Eugene said. He knew a bit about the relationship between Evelyn and Dermot, so he held onto Evelyn tightly, believing that as long as he had her, Dermot wouldn't dare do anything to him.
Eugene's plan was solid. If he had taken someone else hostage, maybe Dermot really wouldn't do anything. After all, not everyone had the skills and courage that Evelyn had.
