Chapter 422 I Just Want to Wait a Little Longer
Lassie's lips twitched. Why did things feel different from what she had expected? From Evelyn's attitude, it seemed like she really disliked Dermot.
"I... I just want to wait a little longer," Lassie finally spoke after a pause, feeling that things were getting out of control.
"Wait?" Evelyn frowned, not quite understanding what Lassie meant.
She hurriedly explained, "Because my parents know about us, if we break up so soon, they will definitely think it's my fault. I don't want them to worry, so even if we break up, I want to wait a while."
Listening to Lassie, Evelyn seemed to understand a bit more.
Yeah, Dermot and Lassie got together because he was interested in her status. Both families must have met each other already.
"But even if you try to stop him, he still wants to break up," Evelyn calmly stated.
Lassie nodded helplessly, "His father was originally very supportive of us being together, but now it seems like he can't control Dermot anymore, so Dermot is eager to break up with me."

Surprised by her confusion, Lassie asked, "Dermot's father, you... don't know?"
"His father!" Evelyn stood up suddenly, her eyes filled with disbelief.
Dermot's father had come back? When did he come back?
More importantly, how could Dermot listen to his father's arrangements? Wasn't he supposed to consider him an enemy?
Things seemed different from what she had imagined. Could it be that Dermot had been lying to her all along?
No mother committing suicide, no father leaving with another woman...
Lassie was taken aback by her reaction and reached out to pull her wrist, asking, "Are you okay? You don't know about his father?"
"Ehm," Evelyn sat back in her seat, her heart feeling ice-cold.
What exactly was Dermot hiding from her?
How much is she being kept in the dark about?
"His father actually wanted me to marry him, but Dermot himself doesn't seem willing." She almost said directly to Evelyn that he likes you and wants to marry you.
Of course, even if she said that now, Evelyn wouldn't believe it.
Lassie had no idea that there was Ava between Evelyn and Dermot. Until this matter was resolved, everything Dermot did wasn't for her.
After calming herself down, Evelyn asked, "Did you come today just to tell me this? Why?"
"I thought maybe he still has feelings for you, but he had to break up with you because of his father." In the end, Lassie decided to tell the truth to prevent any misunderstandings between the two.
However, Evelyn could only laugh at these words. "You're thinking too much. Someone like Dermot can't be threatened if he doesn't want to."
Especially not by his father, who Dermot considers an enemy.
"But..." Lassie wanted to say something more.
Evelyn shook her head, signaling her not to continue. "I understand what you mean, but we've already broken up, and now you're his girlfriend. It has nothing to do with me how you two get along."
"What if I break up with him? You won't be with him either?" Lassie asked, feeling worried for Dermot.
Evelyn smirked. "I won't be with a liar."
