Chapter 947: A Long-Lost Acquaintance

Evelyn had just arrived at the hospital when a nurse rushed up to her. "Dr. Kyte, you're finally here."

"What's going on?" Evelyn asked, following the nurse.

"The patient's family specifically requested you for the surgery," the nurse explained.

As they walked, Evelyn spotted a familiar face among the patient's family. It was Greg, someone she hadn't seen in ages.

It was odd. Back in Moris City, Greg always seemed to pop up, even though they lived far apart. But now in Los Angeles, she rarely saw him.

"Evelyn," Greg greeted her, his smile more subdued and mature than she remembered.

Evelyn didn't know what Greg had been through, but his demeanor suggested the Hamilton family had its share of troubles.

"Why are you here? Is it Mr. Hamilton?" Evelyn asked, already suspecting the answer.

She had previously operated on Cliff and knew how serious his condition was. Her last intervention had been timely, but this time...

Greg's eyes were red, barely holding back his emotions. "My grandfather's in really bad shape," he said.

"Don't worry, I'll figure this out. There has to be a solution," she reassured him, though she had no details yet. Seeing Greg's distress, she knew the situation was dire.

Greg shook his head and stopped her. "No need; all the doctors have already seen him."

While Evelyn was skilled, he doubted she could surpass all the experts at Golombia Hospital.

Evelyn understood.

"How could it be so sudden?" The last surgery wasn't that long ago. If Cliff had taken care of himself, his condition shouldn't have worsened so quickly.

Greg didn't elaborate. "Grandpa Hamilton wants to see you."

Evelyn was surprised. She hadn't seen Cliff much and wasn't close to him. Why would he want to see her now?

"He probably has something to say to you, likely about your identity," Greg guessed.

Evelyn was puzzled. Her identity was already clear, wasn't it? What more could Cliff have to say?

With questions swirling in her mind, Evelyn followed Greg to Cliff's ward.

Outside the ward, many Hamilton family members were waiting. They were surprised and somewhat unfriendly when Cliff asked to see an outsider instead of them.

But they didn't dare say anything. It was Cliff's order, and they couldn't afford to offend Evelyn.

Inside the ward, Greg stood guard at the door while Evelyn went in.

"Mr. Hamilton," Evelyn called softly, approaching the bedside.

Cliff, wearing an oxygen mask and looking pale, opened his eyes at her voice. He smiled faintly. "Evelyn, you're here."

"Yes; you'll be fine," Evelyn said, though she knew it was wishful thinking.

Cliff smiled weakly. "You don't have to comfort me. I know I'm dying."

Evelyn didn't know what to say.

"I called you here to talk about your mother," Cliff said, getting straight to the point.
