Chapter 184 Be Careful
Evelyn followed the crowd in the ruins, searching and rescuing with the first aid kit. They didn't have professional equipment; they could only rely on shouting. If there was a response from under the debris, they would stop and start digging.
Although they rescued a lot of people, the efficiency was still too slow. Evelyn became anxious, but...
"Village chief, has the phone been connected?" Evelyn, who had just finished giving first aid to the villagers, walked over to inquire. The situation now required immediate contact with the outside world for rescue.
The village chief shook his head with a sad expression, "Not yet. We only had this one phone to contact the outside world, but now the line is damaged and there is no one available to repair it. It seems like it won't be functioning."
Evelyn frowned, looking at the many unrecovered houses in the distance, feeling sad, "Send someone to seek help from Everwood, we can't continue like this."
"We have sent someone, but it's a long way to Everwood, and with the earthquake, there won't be any vehicles. They can only go on foot," the village chief sighed. It would take them a whole day to reach Everwood once they arrived.
Evelyn knew that the situation was not optimistic, but there was no other choice.
"There are two children here!"
Not far away, someone shouted. Evelyn heard the voice and looked over, "Go save them."
With that said, she ran towards that direction and arrived at the collapsed house in no time. She asked the people, "What's the situation?"
"We just heard the cries of two children from underneath. It seems to be the Jenkins family, none of the four of them have come out," someone answered.
The houses had all collapsed together, and they could only rely on their memory to identify whose house it was. Although it wasn't precise, it was close enough.
"Call everyone over to save them."
With a serious look on her face, Evelyn walked over and shouted inside, in the direction where the cries were coming from, "Mia, Ethan, don't be afraid, sister is coming to save you."
Her voice echoed throughout the collapsed house, but she didn't receive any response, only faint cries.
Evelyn was worried sick and started moving the stones on top of the house, wanting to rescue the people as as possible.
the villagers rushed over to help. Everyone worked, without much communication, solely focused on saving lives.
all the stones on top of the house were cleared, but they soon faced another challenge.
"The Jenkins couple is not responding at all, and the two children keep crying, unable to come out." They looked at the opening that only allowed one person to enter or exit, feeling helpless.
If the two children could calm down, they could crawl out from this opening, but now...
"We need someone to go in and carry them out," someone suggested.
Silence fell around them. While they wanted to save the people, going in under these circumstances could bury themselves as well. the aftershocks hadn't stopped, and they didn't even know if there would be another strong earthquake. Just in case...
"I'll go," Evelyn spoke up, disregarding the risks.
She was very familiar with those two children, who would come to play with her almost every day. They were adorable kids, and Evelyn couldn't accept losing them like this.
The village chief hurriedly stepped forward to stop her, "No, Dr. Kyte, if something happens to you, how can I explain to the higher-ups?"
"I'll be careful," Evelyn insisted, walking to the opening and bending down to crawl in.
The village chief looked both anxious and helpless, and in the end could only sigh, "Be careful!"
