Chapter 131 Feud between Dermot and Keith

Dermot effortlessly sliced the tomato into thin slices, his knife skills no less inferior to those of a five-star chef.

Evelyn felt as if a different Dermot came out.

"Surprised?" Dermot turned around to glance at her when she didn't respond, and Evelyn was still in shock.

"I was raised by my grandfather. When I was young, he was busy managing the company and didn't have time to take care of me. Although we had caretakers at home, they thought I was too young, and my grandfather was often away, so they often didn't give me food. That's why I slowly learned to cook for myself."

He had known from a young age that he had to rely on for everything, so he studied hard and learned all the necessary life skills to live a better life.

This was the first time Evelyn had heard Dermot talk about these. Her interest was just piqued. "What about your parents? Are they not at home either?"

Dermot's aura became gloomy. "They divorced a long time ago. My father left for what he called love, and my mother couldn't handle the blow and committed suicide."

Right in front of Dermot.

That day, he went to bed early, and his mother, rare as it was, slept with him. He was overjoyed.

But he never expected that when he woke up in the middle of the night and tried to cuddle up to his mother, what he touched was not his mother's embrace, but a cold corpse.

It was pitch black all around. Young Dermot didn't know what had happened. He just kept calling for his mother, but there was no response from anyone beside him.

It wasn't until his crying alarmed his grandfather downstairs and the room's lights turned on that Dermot saw his mother's lifeless face, drained of color.

He became afraid of the dark then, always feeling that darkness would bring something bad.

He wouldn't tell anyone about these things, Evelyn included.

He didn't need anyone's sympathy.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know..." Evelyn felt guilty. Despite being married into the Doyle family for two years, she didn't know anything about the Doyle family. On one hand, Grandpa Doyle never told her, and she wasn't interested and always felt that she wouldn't stay in the Doyle family for long, so she didn't bother to find out.

"It's alright, it's all in the past." Dermot shrugged indifferently, not minding.

He continued, "Aren't you curious about the feud between Keith and me? my father left with his mother back then, leaving the two..."

"In pursuit of so-called love, they abandoned their families."

"As a result, my mother committed suicide, while Keith's father, though alive, became an alcoholic who would come home and beat him whenever he was drunk. He even married a stepmother who tormented him alongside Keith."

Keith hated his father, and he hated his mother. He blamed his mother's departure on Dermot's father, thus harboring hatred towards the entire Doyle family.

Listening to Dermot recount the events and the reasons behind them, Evelyn was caught off guard. She hadn't expected such a complicated history between Dermot and Keith.

"So in all these years, even though he provoked you, you never retaliated because you felt guilty?" Evelyn asked.

However, Dermot chuckled and said, "What do I have to feel guilty about?"

"his mother took away my father, didn't she?" Dermot countered.

Evelyn found his perspective reasonable. Both of them were acting out of their own desires, and there was no one taking away anyone. So why did Keith harbor such hatred towards the Doyle family? It didn't add up.

Aware of what she was thinking, Dermot said, "I do feel sorry for him."

"His father blamed everything on my father, thought he ruined his family. Keith grew up in such a household, and his mind was messed up."

"You have no idea how badly he used to be beaten, always covered in blood. In that kind of family environment, his mental state became abnormal long ago."
