Chapter 1275: Really Can't Stand It
"Hey, let's chow down first, then we can chat," Arianna chimed in right on cue. She was itching to talk to Evelyn about Emily today.
Evelyn had no clue what was on Arianna's mind. Since Arianna wasn't bringing it up, she didn't push and just tried to comfort Jacob for a bit.
After grabbing lunch at Jacob's place, Evelyn and the crew headed to her grandpa's grave. Jacob and his folks stayed back, saying they had dinner prep to handle.
At the cemetery, Evelyn introduced Dermot to her grandpa, "Grandpa, I know you've been looking out for me from up there. Now I've brought Dermot to meet you. Don't worry, he's got my back."
"Grandpa, I'm Dermot. I'll take care of Evelyn from now on, so you can chill," Dermot added.
Evelyn chatted with her grandpa a bit longer before they left the cemetery.
The air in Tara Village was crisp, and Henry was digging the vibe. After leaving the cemetery, he didn't head back with Evelyn and the gang but had Bruce wheel him around for a stroll.
Henry couldn't remember the last time he had a good walk, so he wasn't about to pass up this chance.
Evelyn and Dermot didn't stop him, knowing his current state. It was good for him to get out and about.
When they got back to Jacob's house, they hadn't even stepped inside when they heard a heated argument.
"Jacob, you jerk. Emily's your daughter. Are you just gonna watch her suffer forever?" Arianna's voice rang out.
Jacob stayed silent, just puffing on his cigarette.
"Evelyn's loaded, what's wrong with asking her for a bit of cash? We can borrow it and pay her back later," Arianna pressed on.
Jacob sighed and finally spoke, "Evelyn doesn't owe us anything. Why should she lend us money?"
Besides, how would they ever pay it back? Arianna just wanted to mooch off Evelyn.
"You're her uncle. Can't she even lend us a little cash?" Arianna thought Jacob was useless. Evelyn was rolling in dough; anyone else would be living the high life by now.
But here they were, stuck in this rundown village, not getting a dime from Evelyn.
Arianna was fuming!
Jacob was at a loss, thinking his wife was being totally unreasonable. "Evelyn's got money, but it's the Kyte family's money. I won't ask her. As for Emily, I'll figure something out."
Sadly, his words didn't calm Arianna down. She got even madder and slapped him twice. "Figure something out? What can you figure out? With you working the fields every day, how much can you make in a year? You have to ask her for money, or we can't keep going like this!"
With that, Arianna stormed off.
Evelyn and Dermot had been eavesdropping nearby. When Arianna left, they didn't rush in.
No wonder Arianna was so nice today; she had an agenda.
Evelyn sighed, feeling helpless and unsure of what to say.
From their argument, it seemed like something was up with Emily again.
But wasn't she married? Why did she still need to borrow money?
"Don't stress. Ask Uncle Jacob about it later," Dermot suggested, worried she might be too worked up.
Evelyn nodded. Even if Dermot hadn't mentioned it, she would've asked to get the full story.
It wasn't that she didn't want to help Jacob out; she knew if she did, the money would end up with Emily and Arianna, and nothing would change. She didn't want them to get used to freeloading, so she never gave them money.
But if Jacob was really in a bind, she wouldn't just stand by and do nothing.
