Chapter 154 What a Dilemma

When Evelyn came out with the food, she saw Niall and Dermot huddled together, discussing something, which made her confused.

She still remembered how Niall used to curse Dermot when they divorced, but in the blink of an eye, it seemed like they had become friends?

"Niall." Evelyn called out, "What are you guys talking about?"

Niall seemed guilty of something and quickly sat up straight, speaking seriously, "N-nothing, just casual talk."

He didn't dare to look into Evelyn's eyes, feeling guilty.

After all, Dermot had offered him such a generous condition, like a pie from the sky, and he found it hard to refuse.

Evelyn looked suspicious, clearly not believing him.

Just as she was about to ask further, Dermot stood up and approached them, "Are you done here? Do you need any help?"

"No, you're a guest. Just sit and wait for the meal," Evelyn replied.

Dermot didn't refuse. In fact, he didn't actually want to help Aidan either. "Are you tired? Take a break."

"No thanks," Evelyn glanced at him and turned back towards the kitchen.

Dermot felt helpless about the situation. Although his injury had made Evelyn treat him a bit better, it wasn't enough. She still remained cold towards him.

As he sighed internally, Niall spoke, "I've told you. Even if I don't object, Evelyn would never be with you."

Niall knew his sister quite well.

Dermot didn't respond, just gazing at the kitchen, lost in his thoughts.

Before long, dinner was served. Although Dermot didn't like Aidan, he had to admit that the dishes he made were better than his own.

"Here, Mr. Doyle. I propose a toast to you." Aidan suddenly raised his glass to Dermot. "Even though you weren't the best to Evelyn during your two years of marriage, you weren't bad either. I appreciate that you didn't hurt her."

Dermot was speechless; it seemed like he just can't escape this topic.

"Mr. Brooks is being polite. In the past, it was my ignorance that made me unaware of how good Evelyn is, which is why I missed her." He said, his gaze already shifting towards Evelyn.

"But not anymore," he said.

Aidan's expression changed as he forced a smile, "As Evelyn’s brother, I still hope she can find happiness, but I don't think Mr. Doyle is the right person."

"So, after this meal, I hope Mr. Doyle can keep some distance from Evelyn to avoid causing her trouble."

Dermot's face turned unpleasant. He didn't expect Aidan to say it so directly, "What makes Mr. Brooks think I'm not the one who can make Evelyn happy? Besides, what trouble could there be if Evelyn is with me?"

His tone was not good, even a bit cold.

"Huh, does Mr. Doyle want to say that he doesn't know that this whole thing was caused by that woman, Natalie?" Aidan looked at him and sneered.

"I shouldn't have to explain why Natalie is targeting Evelyn, right?"

Dermot was stunned. He couldn't find any arguments against that.

After a long while, he reluctantly said, "I didn't mean to..."

"It doesn't matter. what matters is how things develop." Aidan interrupted him, not wanting to listen to his explanations at all.

The tension at the dinner table grew stronger. Niall had already put down his chopsticks, thinking that if they continued like this, they would probably start fighting soon.

Should he just stand by and watch? Or should he help Aidan?

But he had just reached a cooperation agreement with Dermot. If he beat him up, the cooperation would fall apart, wouldn't it?

What a dilemma...
