Chapter 1213: I Don't Want to See You
A week later, Evelyn's life was a total mess.
On one side, she had to keep an eye out for Nathaniel making a move on Kyte Manor, and on the other, Cassie was all up in her business.
Evelyn was like, seriously? Didn't Cassie say she wanted to go after Dermot? So why wasn't she chasing him instead of bugging her? Was she hoping Evelyn would just step aside?
Was she really that clueless?
But nah, Cassie wasn't thinking like that. She was hanging around Evelyn 'cause Dermot wouldn't give her the time of day. If she couldn't even get a glimpse of him, how was she supposed to win him over?
So, she had no choice but to settle for plan B and hover around Evelyn. She knew Dermot would swing by to pick Evelyn up from work every day, and she could use that chance to see him.
"Dr. Kyte," Cassie said, grinning as she walked in, surprised to see Dermot already there, looking all smug.
"Dermot, you're here too," Cassie greeted him with a smile.
Dermot gave her a once-over and said coolly, "Evelyn says you come to bug her every day just to see me?"
Cassie felt her face heat up. It was true, but did Evelyn have to put it out there like that?
Seeing her speechless, Evelyn said, annoyed, "You wanna see Dermot that bad? I made sure you could come today. Say what you gotta say quick, or you won't get another shot."
She was so over Cassie showing up every day like they were besties or something.
Cassie's jaw dropped. She didn't expect Evelyn to be so blunt.
"Dr. Kyte, you've got it all wrong. I just wanna be friends with you," Cassie said in a pitiful tone, trying to get some sympathy from Dermot.
Too bad, that trick didn't work at all.
Dermot glanced at her and said, "Evelyn doesn't wanna be friends with you. If you're not here to see me, then stop coming to the hospital," he said firmly.
"But Dermot, Dr. Kyte is my doctor," Cassie whined.
Dermot was about to lose it.
Evelyn grabbed his hand and shook her head, then turned to Cassie. "Being your doctor is fine, but friends? No way. I don't think we can be friends."
Evelyn shrugged, "Cassie, we both know why you're really here. Instead of dancing around it, just tell Dermot what you want. Otherwise, who knows when you'll see him again."
Evelyn was trying to help by calling Dermot over. She wanted to give him and Cassie a chance to sort things out so she wouldn't have to deal with Cassie's constant nagging.
Cassie's face finally showed some irritation. She couldn't keep up the act anymore.
Gritting her teeth, she nodded and admitted, "Yeah, I wanna see Dermot."
"Dermot won't see me because of you. How is this not your fault?"
Evelyn was like, what? How was this her problem? She never stopped Dermot and Cassie from meeting.
Before she could say anything, Dermot cut in, "It's got nothing to do with her. I just don't wanna see you."
"Why?" Cassie blurted out, and Dermot laughed, "Why should I? Are we that tight?"
"Dermot."
"I told you not to call me that. We're not close," Dermot snapped, feeling annoyed.
