Chapter 851 What Reason Do I Have to Refuse?
Evelyn wanted to say no, but she hesitated. She didn't have any beef with Otis, and it felt rude to blow him off.
She couldn't really let Dermot influence her, could she?
While she was still thinking about this, Otis kept talking. "The Kyte family and the Doyle family haven't worked together much. I've got a solid project. Ms. Kyte, why not consider it?"
"Since Mr. Doyle put it that way, what reason do I have to refuse?" Evelyn smiled. At that moment, she realized why she didn't like Otis.
Otis was the type who wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted, no matter the cost.
But he had a point. Their families hadn't teamed up before. If he really had a good project, she wouldn't mind having a meal with him.
It's just a meal, what's there to be afraid of? She figured he wouldn't dare to make a move on her.
Evelyn agreed, and Otis's sour expression finally eased. "Let's head to the restaurant and chat over dinner."
Evelyn didn't object and got into Otis's car. However, to be safe, she sent a message to Luke in advance, telling him to come to her rescue if she lost contact for a long time.
Luke was the only one she could count on right now; he was part of her business and trustworthy.
Thinking about Dermot and Joshua just gave her a headache, so she kept them out of the loop.
She didn't want them to know, but they were well-informed. As soon as Evelyn got into Otis's car, both of them got the news.
Neither of them looked happy.
They knew exactly what Otis was up to and didn't want Evelyn getting too close to him.
But since Evelyn agreed, they were sure that Otis must've said something she couldn't turn down. It worried them both.
Not long after Evelyn and Otis got to the restaurant, Dermot and Joshua showed up, too.
They didn't go in to interrupt but waited outside to make sure Evelyn was safe.
In the car, Joshua was fuming. Dealing with Dermot was bad enough, and now Otis was in the mix, both with shady intentions towards Evelyn. If they were abroad, he'd have made them disappear by now.
But they were back home, making things tricky. Plus, he didn't want Evelyn to suspect anything.
Lost in thought, he heard a knock on the window. Joshua rolled it down and saw Dermot standing there, his mood instantly souring.
"What are you doing here?" Joshua asked, scowling.
Dermot stayed cool and smiled. "Same reason you're here."
They exchanged a knowing look, which only irritated Joshua more.
"Don't you think Evelyn has too many admirers?" Dermot said, ignoring Joshua's scowl and glancing towards the restaurant, though he couldn't see Evelyn and Otis.
Joshua lit a cigarette and eyed him. "Yeah, everyone wants to pursue Evelyn without realizing their place."
He looked pointedly at Dermot, clearly suggesting he was one of those clueless admirers.
