Chapter 1364 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (39)
At Aidan's office, his assistant had laid out a bunch of pics and deets about the dresses Aidan had checked out last night, right in front of him first thing in the morning.
"Mr. Brooks, these are the dresses you wanted me to prep, but I have no clue which one Ms. Irvine would dig," the assistant said.
Honestly, he thought all the dresses were drop-dead gorgeous, and way out of his price range for sure.
Aidan flipped through them, taking his sweet time, but he was stuck. He had no idea which one Phoebe would like. So, he ended up snapping pics of the dresses and sending them to Phoebe to pick.
Phoebe hit him back pretty quick, and to his surprise, she picked a black dress.
"Alright, this one then." Even though he thought the red one might pop more, he rolled with Phoebe's choice and went with the black.
The assistant took the info, looking a bit iffy. "Mr. Brooks, this dress is a super exclusive limited edition, and it's crazy expensive."
He wasn't trying to butt in, but dropping that kind of cash on a dress wasn't something you did on a whim. He had to be sure. If Aidan wasn't that into Phoebe, splurging on such a pricey dress seemed kinda over the top.
Aidan didn't know what was going through his assistant's head, but the question ticked him off a bit. "Is the company going under? Can't we swing this?"
"No, sir." The assistant quickly shook his head, catching Aidan's drift. He turned to leave, not wanting to stick around and risk Aidan getting more pissed.
Just as he hit the door, Aidan's voice stopped him, "From now on, make sure everything for her is top-notch."
Aidan hadn't really paid attention to this stuff before; the assistant usually handled it. Now it seemed like maybe he hadn't given clear enough orders, and the assistant's efforts were kinda half-assed.
The assistant was taken aback but quickly agreed. It looked like Aidan was starting to care about Phoebe, which probably meant he was into her.
The assistant figured he should show Phoebe more respect from now on; she might end up being Aidan's wife someday.
In the afternoon, Phoebe got the dress delivered by the assistant.
"Thanks." Taking the dress, Phoebe felt a bit awkward, like she was always putting people out.
The assistant shook his head, saying it was no biggie, "Mr. Brooks also hired some stylists for you. Should I let them in now?"
Phoebe was caught off guard, even more puzzled by Aidan's actions. "I didn't think he'd go this far."
"Of course, Mr. Brooks is really looking out for you now," the assistant replied, trying to boost Aidan's image in Phoebe's eyes.
But Phoebe wasn't feeling it. She figured Aidan just didn't want her to embarrass him at the banquet, so he went all out. Basically, she was just arm candy, and it made sense he'd cover the costs.
"Ms. Irvine, you good?" The assistant noticed Phoebe's expression wasn't great, not moved at all.
Phoebe snapped back and quickly put on a normal face. "I'm fine. Let them in."
Getting styled would take a while, and starting now meant they'd finish just in time for the banquet.
"Okay." The assistant nodded, even though he felt something was off, he didn't push it. He was just an employee and knew better than to pry.
