Chapter 457 I Don't Care
As she ate the food that Dermot served her, Evelyn found it tasteless. She wanted to say something but didn't know how to start.
After a while, she thought of Luke and cautiously asked, "Your father has been gone for so many years, do you think it's possible that he had another child besides you?"
Luke wasn't much younger than Dermot, and Evelyn couldn't help but suspect that if he truly was Benjamin's child, then maybe he and Keith's mother had a connection before they eloped. Perhaps it was because of their child that they made such a decision. Of course, this was all just her speculation.
Dermot paused with his chopsticks, seemingly caught off guard by Evelyn's sudden question. "Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"
"Well, it's just a casual question," she replied, acting nonchalant.
Given Dermot's current state, she really didn't dare to let him know about Luke's existence. Who knew how much it would affect him.
Dermot nodded and remained silent for a while. "Whether there is or not, it doesn't matter to me. I don't care."
He didn't care if it was Benjamin's son or even Benjamin himself, let alone anyone else. The only thing he cared about now was Evelyn. Actually, he didn't even know what was happening to himself. He was just afraid of losing Evelyn and wished she could stay by his side all the time.
He knew he couldn't act that way. If he did, it would only push Evelyn further away. So he restrained himself, and this restraint made him very uncomfortable. He found that, as long as Evelyn was within his sight, the uncomfortable feeling would significantly lessen.
"Don't you care?" Evelyn was surprised. She thought Dermot would be angry.
"No, I don't care about anyone else, except you," he said.
Evelyn fell silent and didn't say anything further. After leaving Dermot's house, she returned to her own place and lay in bed for a long time without being able to fall asleep. After a while, she couldn't resist getting up from the bed and grabbing her address book to call a senior fellow abroad.
The senior fellow was an expert in psychology. They had known each other back when she was studying overseas and since he also graduated from Moris City University, their relationship was slightly closer.
The call connected quickly, and Evelyn explained Dermot's current situation to him, unable to help feeling worried.
"His current state, it's probably not normal, right?" She wasn't sure, which was why she needed to ask a professional.
"It's probably because losing his mother had a great impact on him back then, so he's especially afraid of losing you now," the other person said. Evelyn pursed her lips, unsure of what to say.
"He's in a very dangerous situation right now, walking on a tightrope. Once he gets stuck, he might do things that ordinary people can't understand. It's better for you to take him to see a psychologist as soon as possible. It will only get harder to resolve later on."
After listening, Evelyn felt her heart sink. She hadn't expected Dermot's psychological issues to suddenly become so severe. It used to be just a fear of the dark, and now it was escalating rapidly.
"I appreciate your help, Senior, " Evelyn thanked him and asked, "Do you know of a trustworthy psychologist in Moris City?"
"I do know one. I'll send you her contact information."
The call ended, and Evelyn received the contact information. Given Dermot's status, it was necessary to find someone reliable; otherwise, if any information were to leak, it would have a significant impact.
