Chapter 871 Murdered
Otis couldn't believe Dermot had actually jumped.
He thought, 'Did he really give up and accept his fate? Did he think there was a river below, and he might survive?'
"Idiot!" Otis cursed under his breath and called over a guard. "Go down and check. I need to see his body."
"Yes, sir," the bodyguard nodded.
Just as Otis was about to call Gerald to report, his phone rang. Seeing it was his father's secretary, he assumed the call was to inquire about the progress. Without waiting, he said, "Tell my dad the plan worked. Dermot's dead."
"Mr. Otis Doyle, Mr. Gerald Doyle is in trouble." The secretary's voice trembled with panic.
Otis's brow furrowed, a sense of dread washing over him. "Trouble? What happened?"
He couldn't imagine what could have gone wrong on his father's side.
"Mr. Gerald Doyle has been murdered!" The secretary's voice was filled with terror.
Otis's phone slipped from his hand, hitting the ground with a thud. For a moment, he was too stunned to utter a word.
News of the Doyle family's troubles spread quickly through Golombia. Dermot had fallen off a cliff, and Gerald had been shot dead in his villa. Either event alone was shocking, but now, they had happened simultaneously..
Evelyn had just finished performing surgery when she saw the news and nearly lost her balance.
"Did Dermot fall off a cliff?" she muttered.
Evelyn didn't believe it for a second. After the incident last time, Dermot would avoid cliffs like the plague. She didn't believe he would go near one again.
She immediately called Jennifer, asking her to find out what was really going on.
Jennifer's bar had become quite successful, and her knack for gathering information had improved. Evelyn trusted her with this task.
Still anxious, Evelyn drove straight to Doyle Manor to get answers.
When she arrived, the place was swarming with reporters and security guards, making it impossible to get in.
Seeing this, Evelyn grew even more anxious. Just then, Jennifer called. Though she hadn't figured everything out, she knew where Dermot had fallen. Without hesitation, Evelyn headed there.
Learning it was at Otis's new ranch, Evelyn grew suspicious. She was angry that Dermot hadn't been more cautious.
She thought, 'Clearly, Otis had bad intentions. Why did Dermot go there?'
With these thoughts racing, she hurried to the ranch, unable to calm down. By then, she finally realized how much she cared about Dermot.
But it seemed too late to realize her true feelings.
All she could do now was pray Dermot was okay.
When she arrived at the ranch, it was heavily guarded. They claimed they were still searching for Dermot, and the situation was unclear.
Evelyn didn't believe them. These were Otis's men. Even if they found Dermot, they wouldn't save him.
She sneaked into the ranch while the guards were distracted and headed straight to the scene.
There were indeed many people searching. Just as Evelyn thought Otis might have a conscience, she heard a bodyguard mutter, "Where did he go? Falling from that height, he can't be alive."
Someone else shouted, "Stop talking and keep looking. If Dermot escapes, we can't explain it to Mr. Otis Doyle."
They continued searching, oblivious to Evelyn nearby.
