Chapter 1276: I'll Give You Money
The two hung out by the door for what felt like forever. Dermot went off to find Henry, leaving Evelyn to head into Jacob's place solo.
"Uncle Jacob." The second Evelyn stepped in, she spotted Jacob chilling in a chair, puffing on a smoke. Her heart sank a bit.
She plopped down across from him. "Uncle Jacob, what's up?"
Jacob glanced her way and forced a smile. "Nothing's up. Don't sweat it."
"Uncle Jacob," Evelyn locked eyes with him, hesitated for a sec, then just went for it, "I heard you and Aunt Arianna going at it earlier."
Jacob tensed up, his eyes getting all watery. "She's just talking crap."
"Uncle Jacob, spill it. What's really going on?" Evelyn could tell he was at the end of his rope. If he had any other way out, he wouldn't be acting like this.
Jacob didn't want Evelyn in the loop, didn't want to hit her up for help. Even though he was her uncle, it didn't feel the same as being her real uncle.
But under Evelyn's stare, Jacob caved and spilled the beans. Maybe, deep down, he hoped she'd step in.
From Jacob's rambling, Evelyn pieced it together.
Turns out, Emily was dead set on marrying Cecil 'cause she was knocked up, and Jacob couldn't stop her, so he let her go.
But then, Arianna and Emily hit up the Ortiz family for $30,000 and blew through it all.
Later, Cecil showed his true colors, turning into a total jerk, beating and cursing at pregnant Emily. She got roughed up so bad a few times she was left bloody.
Jacob thought about dragging Emily back, but Cecil demanded the $30,000 back to let her go.
But the cash was long gone, thanks to Arianna and Emily, and there was no way to pay it back.
Lately, Jacob and Arianna had been at each other's throats over this. He thought she never should've taken the money. If she hadn't, they wouldn't be in this mess.
Arianna didn't see it that way. She figured every family took money when marrying off a daughter. If others could do it, why couldn't she?
Plus, Arianna had no clue Cecil was such a scumbag, even beating a pregnant woman.
These days, Emily called every day, bawling, begging them to save her, but they were flat broke.
It was only last night, after Evelyn's call saying she was coming over, that Arianna suggested hitting Evelyn up for cash. But Jacob wasn't down with that, which led to their earlier blowout.
After hearing the whole saga, Evelyn was speechless for a moment.
She couldn't even figure out how to describe Emily.
"Evelyn, I'm not telling you this to ask for money. Don't worry, I'll sort it out," Jacob said, wiping his eyes and looking at Evelyn.
But Evelyn couldn't stand seeing him struggle like this.
"Uncle Jacob, I'll give you the money," Evelyn said.
Jacob was about to refuse, but Evelyn cut him off. "I know you don't want my money, but Emily's your daughter. I know it kills you to see her suffer."
Even though Emily had messed up big time, Evelyn could see Jacob still cared about her.
So, Evelyn decided to help.
But she had her own terms. "But Uncle Jacob, we can bail her out this time, but who knows if there'll be a next time? If she doesn't learn her lesson, this could just happen all over again."
