Chapter 498 Don't You Have Anything You Want to Ask Me?

Blake was rendered speechless, struggling to grasp an appropriate response.

"Alright." After an extended moment, he agreed, cautious now of inviting more requests from Evelyn, for fear her next could be less accommodating.

It wasn't that Blake was stingy with the smaller companies, but generosity had its consequences. With Evelyn's recent return, doling out too much would raise eyebrows, prompting tough questions not only from Dora and Lucia but also from other stakeholders of the Kyte family.

Blake didn't worry for himself, but he didn't want to saddle Evelyn with an arsenal of enemies, either. They'd have to proceed cautiously.

"I'll get my assistant to prepare the transfer documents for the two companies right away. When do you plan to move back into the Kyte estate?" Blake inquired, his voice tinged with trepidation, for truth be told, he had no clear inkling of his daughter's inner workings.
Despite her youthful appearance, she seemed to carry herself with a maturity that far surpassed his own – no childish whims or petulance; she knew exactly what she wanted. Such clarity was admirable, and had Evelyn been a colleague, he would have been thrilled to have her as a partner. But she wasn't a colleague; she was his daughter, which complicated his feelings.

He couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt, wondering if his lack of protection had forced Evelyn to grow up too sensible, too soon, missing out on the impulsiveness and passion that youth is privileged with. These thoughts, however, were confined to the depths of his mind, never to be voiced, especially since he knew he was the one who had fallen short.

"Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today, right? Let's do it tonight," Evelyn said with a smile, eager anticipation building for the look on Lucia’s face when she saw her at the Kyte family estate. It was going to be priceless.

"Sure," Blake agreed, settling the matter.

With their business concluded, Evelyn didn't linger. She stood up, ready to make her exit. Blake was suddenly anxious, "You're leaving just like that? Is there nothing you want to ask me?"

He had braced himself, expecting Evelyn to bombard him with questions of the past, to confront him about abandoning her, but not a single question came.

Evelyn paused, facing Blake. Nothing to ask?

Of course not. She had questions, plenty of them.

But, when it came down to actually facing Blake, she somehow couldn’t find the right words. More precisely, it seemed pointless to ask anything at all.

"There’s nothing I need to ask. If you have something to say, then say it. If not, let’s leave it," she stated. She had grown up, she didn't need anyone to look after her, and Blake's presence, in reality, meant very little to her.

Blake sighed; this was the last version of Evelyn he wanted to confront. He would have preferred her anger, her accusations, anything but this calm indifference.

He glanced at Ella, still seated, "Go. You don't owe Dora anything anymore, and don't let me catch you doing her bidding again."

He didn't plan to scold Ella, understanding that if she stood unharmed before him, it was because Evelyn had shown mercy. If Evelyn chose to spare her life, he wouldn't interfere, despite his desires to the contrary.

Ella left the office and, at the door, turned back to say "Thank you" to Evelyn. She was well aware that it was Evelyn’s doing that she was walking away free.

Evelyn simply shrugged, indifferent, not taking it to heart.

Once they were alone, Blake invited Evelyn to sit down and had someone pour her a glass of water. Then, he let out a long sigh, as if falling into a sea of memories.
