Chapter 1265: It's up to You
There was some sense in what he said, but Evelyn was still dead set on Dermot crashing in his own room. "We'll have plenty of time to shack up later. For now, let's keep our space and enjoy the little freedom we got."
"Alright, whatever floats your boat." Dermot didn't push it; he kinda knew Evelyn wouldn't be down.
He turned and headed for the door. "Night."
"Night." Evelyn waved him off, basically telling him to scram.
The door clicked shut, echoing through the room.
Evelyn chuckled to herself, then hit the sack and was out like a light.
Meanwhile, after Aidan wrapped up his call with her, he bounced from his place.
Evelyn was right. He did spot Phoebe today. He was in his car when he saw her struggling with groceries outside the supermarket.
He almost jumped out to help, but his brain told him to chill.
He shouldn't get involved; he needed to keep his distance from Phoebe.
But something was off. Phoebe looked way skinnier than before. Pregnant chicks are supposed to pack on some pounds, but not her.
She was so thin, a stiff breeze might knock her over.
What was up with her?
Aidan watched her walk away, and in the end, he couldn't help but tail her back to her place.
It was a basic neighborhood, not what Aidan had in mind.
Logically, Craig should be taking care of Phoebe. The cash Aidan gave her should've set her up nicely. So why was she living here?
And with her belly so big, why was she still doing her own shopping? Didn't she have a nanny or something?
He parked at the entrance of the neighborhood for a long time before finally driving off.
But when he got home, Phoebe's frail figure kept popping into his head. He was worried, which is why he called Evelyn.
He didn't get any useful info from Evelyn, so he decided to check on Phoebe himself.
Even though Aidan had already given her money and wasn't into Phoebe, she was carrying his kid. Aidan figured it wouldn't hurt to show some concern.
At this point, Aidan might not have realized that he had always been reluctant to acknowledge Phoebe's baby as his, but now he was sure.
The car pulled up at Phoebe's apartment building. When he got there, he suddenly snapped out of it. He muttered, "What am I doing? Why do I care about her?"
Aidan thought he must be exhausted and not thinking straight, which is why seeing Phoebe had messed with his head.
With that thought, Aidan started the car to leave.
But just then, Phoebe came out.
She was lugging trash, heading to a dumpster overflowing with garbage, which made Aidan frown again.
What kind of crappy neighborhood was this? Didn't they have janitors to take out the trash?
From this, it was clear that the place Phoebe lived in wasn't top-notch in Golombia.
She had a ton of money and could live better. Why was she here?
With these questions swirling, Aidan got out of the car and found himself walking up to Phoebe.
"Aidan?" Phoebe looked at the suddenly appearing Aidan, totally shocked.
She rubbed her eyes, thinking she was seeing things.
But no matter how much she rubbed, Aidan was still there, not disappearing.
