Chapter 1080 Shameless
Phoebe thought she was starting fresh, but Aidan's confrontation made her realize it wasn't that easy.
"Whose baby is it?" Aidan asked coldly. Even though Evelyn said she'd talk to Phoebe, he didn't trust her and decided to handle it himself.
Phoebe felt a chill from his stare, her hand clenching under the table. "It's not yours, so why do you care?"
"If it's not mine, why lie?" Aidan frowned, trying to read her face.
Phoebe kept her cool, knowing if Aidan found out the baby was his, he'd never let her keep it.
"I thought about using the baby to keep you around, but after talking to Evelyn, I knew it wouldn't work. So, I stopped lying," Phoebe chuckled. To Aidan, she seemed unchanged, and he still disliked her.
Aidan's face softened a bit. "Then whose baby is it?"
"I don't know," Phoebe said, embarrassed. "I drank too much at a bar, and when I woke up, the guy was gone."
"Shameless!" Aidan spat angrily.
Phoebe nodded, "Yeah, you knew that from the start."
"You don't even know the father, yet you're keeping it?" Aidan's confusion mixed with anger.
"No matter who the father is, I'm the mother. Why can't I have it?" Phoebe shot back.
Aidan looked puzzled. "Having a child out of wedlock, haven't you thought about the criticism?"
Phoebe shrugged, "I don't care."
Aidan wanted to say more, but Phoebe cut him off. "Why do you care? Have you fallen for me?"
"Like you? Ridiculous." Aidan rolled his eyes, baffled by her words.
"If you don't like me, why does it matter if I have the baby?" Phoebe didn't expect Aidan to like her anymore.
Though she felt a pang of sadness, she was more relaxed facing Aidan now.
Aidan's expression soured. "I'm worried you'll have ulterior motives once the baby is born."
He was worried she'd cling to him.
Phoebe understood, feeling a bit bitter but hiding it well. "Don't worry, I'm about to be a mom. I won't cling to you."
"Besides, I don't think you're that great anymore," she added, fearing he wouldn't believe her.
For some reason, her words didn't relieve Aidan. Instead, he felt uneasy.
But he brushed it off. He got the answer he wanted and didn't plan to keep talking. "Fine, I hope you keep your word."
