Chapter 43 Let’s Call It Even

"Nicole Waliker, 45 years old, unemployed. The child who just had surgery is not your biological son but your stepson."

"It's been said that you never liked this stepson of yours and have even said multiple times that you wish he would die soon. It seems like the car accident he was in is also related to you."

"You wanted the doctors to perform a craniotomy on him, hoping he would die on the operating table. Not only could you get rid of this annoying stepson, but you could also extort money from the hospital. Am I wrong?"

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone around them looked incredulous.

Is there really such a wicked person? Even if he's not her biological son, she wouldn't want him dead, right?

Seeing everyone staring at her, Nicole's face turned pale. She gritted her teeth and said, "You're talking nonsense! You're just trying to help Dr. Kyte shirk responsibility."

"Whether or not I'm talking nonsense, the police will investigate and find out. But let me remind you, everything you did in the emergency room this afternoon is recorded on surveillance cameras. Do you think you can reverse black and white with just a few words?"

After speaking, several policemen walked up to Nicole. "We received a report suspecting you of attempted murder. Please come with us."

Bang! Nicole lost her balance and fell to the ground, her lips turning deathly pale.

Soon, she was taken away by the police, leaving the reporters holding their cameras feeling a little dazed. This twist seems a bit too fast?

However, Keith wasn't going to let it go at that. He stared at the reporters coldly and said, "I hope to see accurate reporting. Do you all understand what I mean?"

"Y-yes." Someone nodded, feeling the threat in Keith's words.

They didn't dare to argue. After all, at the moment, Dr. Kyte seemed to be wrongly accused. Everyone felt a little scared and realized they had almost been used as pawns by that woman.

The reporters left, and the onlookers dispersed.

Evelyn looked at Keith and said, "Thank you. I'll remember this favor."

"Don't mention it. Consider it my gift for our first meeting." Keith smiled.

Evelyn was too tired to say anything else. All she wanted to do now was go home and get a good night's sleep.

Keith seemed to sense her tiredness and said, "Looks like we won't be having dinner tonight. Let me take you home and get some rest."

"Okay." Evelyn didn't refuse. After all, he had just helped her out. It wouldn't be right to turn him down immediately.

As they prepared to leave, Evelyn suddenly thought of something and turned to Dermot. "Thank you too, Mr. Doyle. It's getting late. You should head back too."

She didn't know why Dermot was still here, but regardless, he had helped her yesterday in the elevator. Saying thank you was the least she could do.

"No need. You helped me yesterday, and I helped you today. Let's call it even." The man spoke in a deep voice.

Evelyn was stunned. So that's what it was. No wonder Dermot was still here. He was returning the favor from yesterday.

"Okay." Evelyn nodded. Calling it even sounded good to her.

She followed Keith out of the hospital, leaving Dermot standing there watching their figures disappear. His face was dark, making people afraid to approach him.

"Mr. Doyle!"

Todd came running, panting. "I found the woman you asked me to investigate. You wouldn't believe how wicked she is."

"No need," Dermot interrupted, his gaze icy. "You came too late."

Keith had already solved the problem, but his assistant was only arriving now. What was the point?

"I-I'm sorry, Mr. Doyle. I was rear-ended on the way here, so I was delayed." Todd lowered his head, not daring to meet his boss's eyes.

"Rear-ended?" Dermot frowned, having a vague guess.

That bastard Keith would do anything to impress Evelyn.

He felt tired and rubbed his forehead. "Alright, just go back."

"What about these files?"

"Take them to the police station."
