Chapter 1217: I'll Keep an Eye on Her
Evelyn shot Cassie a look and said, "Look, whether I'm talking crap or not ain't the point. What matters is what you really want. Your bro hates Dermot's guts, so why are you still hanging on to him? You guys are a joke."
Cassie's face twisted. Yeah, Leonard wasn't exactly thrilled about her seeing Dermot.
"This is my business, not Leonard's," Cassie snapped, glaring at Evelyn.
Evelyn just shrugged and sneered, "Oh really? You're really letting Leonard down. He faked his death for years to save you, and this is how you repay him?"
"Evelyn!"
"If I were your brother, I'd regret saving you. If I knew this would happen, I'd have let you die," Evelyn went on, ignoring Cassie's darkening expression.
Cassie's face got even darker. She was scared Leonard might actually feel the same. She looked anxiously at him. "Leonard."
"Ms. Kyte, this is none of your business. Cassie is my sister, of course, I'd save her. As for her liking Dermot, that's her call. I don't agree with it, but I won't stop her," Leonard said.
He wasn't dumb; he knew Evelyn was trying to stir the pot between him and Cassie.
Evelyn didn't care that he saw through her game and added, "I think you should stop her. Stealing my boyfriend would piss me off."
"Oh? So what?" Leonard wasn't scared of her; the Bush family was just as powerful as the Kyte family.
Evelyn propped her chin with one hand and winked. "The Bush family is strong, sure, but I'm never alone."
"The Kyte family, the Doyle family, the Allen family, and even the Martin family, if I want to mess with you, they can all come after the Bush family. You sure you can handle that?" Evelyn said, watching Leonard's face darken.
At first, he thought teaming up with a couple of other families would be enough to take on the Kyte and Doyle families and maybe even win.
But hearing Evelyn, he remembered Wade from the Allen family was tight with Evelyn, and her sister was in the Allen family too.
And the Martin family? That was a mess. Margaret Martin was suddenly gunning for control, backed by the Doyle family. So, it seemed true.
This way, the Bush family would be in a tough spot. Leonard had been confident he could rally a few families against the Kyte and Doyle families. But if these four families teamed up, no one would want to face them.
Seeing Leonard's face go pale, Cassie got worried. "Leonard."
"Ms. Kyte, you make a good point. I'll keep an eye on Cassie and make sure she doesn't bother you two," Leonard said, not planning to take Evelyn head-on, at least not openly.
Cassie panicked. "Leonard!"
"Listen to me," Leonard snapped, cutting her off.
Cassie felt wronged but didn't dare say anything else.
Leonard was still her brother, but he was also the head of the Bush family and couldn't just cater to her whims.
Cassie didn't know if this was good or bad.
"Mr. Ackers, with you saying that, I'm much more at ease," Evelyn nodded, satisfied that Leonard got the picture.
