Chapter 1046: None of Them Are Fools
The temp workers showed up at the villa, ready to prep for the New Year's Eve bash. They started decorating and setting out the food and drinks.
By the time Ruby arrived, the place was packed. She was surprised to see so many people.
"You..." Evelyn glanced at Alex beside her, feeling a mix of emotions.
Was Ruby bringing Alex here to get back at Craig?
Sensing her thoughts, Ruby quickly explained, "He just happened to contact me, so I brought him along. You don't mind, do you?"
"Really?" Evelyn asked.
Ruby rolled her eyes and said, "Why would I lie to you? Everything I said before was true."
Evelyn said no more and led them inside.
In the living room, Lydia, Lily, and Sarah were chatting, while a few guys were playing Texas Hold'em, looking pretty happy.
"Ruby." Lydia saw Ruby and waved her over with a smile.
Craig noticed Ruby and Alex right away, his face turning sour.
Ruby looked at Alex, about to speak, but he said, "You go ahead; I'll join the guys."
He pointed to the group of guys, making Ruby nervous. Craig was in that group and didn't look friendly.
"Don't worry; I'll be fine." Seeing her concern, Alex patted her head affectionately.
Ruby blushed and coughed lightly before walking over to Lydia.
Evelyn watched them and felt there was something between them. She liked Alex. Evelyn said, "Go ahead, call me if you need anything."
"Ms. Kyte, you're underestimating me, aren't you?" Alex didn't think he needed Evelyn's help.
Evelyn chuckled, "It's New Year's; I'm just worried you might get into a fight."
"Don't worry. Even if he starts something, I won't." He was a cop and wouldn't brawl.
As long as the other side didn't cross his line.
Seeing him so calm, Evelyn said no more and watched as Alex walked over to Craig.
As soon as Alex sat down, Keith looked at him curiously. "Sir, you look familiar."
"Really? Maybe because I've arrested a few members of the Kartland family." Alex smiled, making Keith's mouth twitch.
He remembered now; this was the new lieutenant in Golombia who had arrested several of his subordinates.
Luke looked at Alex and extended his hand. "Hello, Mr. Morris."
"Hello, Mr. Doyle." Alex knew Luke too.
He knew anyone with a bit of fame and had dealt with them all.
"Don't call me that; we're all friends here. Just call me Luke." Luke wanted to build a good relationship.
Alex smiled and agreed, "Then you call me Alex."
Craig sneered, "Are you looking for a backer here?"
Everyone looked at him. They all knew about Craig and Ruby.
With Ruby and Alex together, it was clear why Craig mocked him. Everyone was at a loss for words.
"Mr. Irvine, you're overthinking this. There's no such thing as a free lunch; it's all about mutual benefit." Alex wasn't angered by Craig's words. He knew what was going on between Craig and Ruby.
So he was determined not to let Ruby go back to Craig.
