Chapter 503 Calculating Even One's Own Daughter
Dora knew she couldn't deceive Blake about attempting to harm Evelyn, yet fear wasn't in her vocabulary. What difference did it make if he knew? Was he going to exact vengeance and kill her?
Let's not mention that Evelyn was unscathed. Even if something had befallen her, Blake wouldn't dare touch Dora. These were unspoken truths, and Dora was far from foolish enough to utter them aloud.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," she declared flatly, opting for denial.
"Ella confessed to being your pawn. Still want to play innocent?" Blake regarded her with a disdainful chill. He had known all along that Dora was no good; he had just underestimated the depth of her ruthlessness.
Surprised by Ella’s betrayal yet unfazed on the surface, Dora retorted, "Her word is the truth now? Who's to say she wasn't bought off?"
Blake recognized that look – she wouldn't confess. And the stalemate continued.
Blake couldn't care less whether anyone admitted it or not, and he addressed her directly, "I'm going public that Evelyn is my daughter. As of today, she's moving back to the Kyte estate. She is now the rightful daughter of the Kyte family. If you dare lay a finger on her again, believe me, I won't spare the Roberts family either!"
He had the power now to make such a bold statement.
"Blake, you wouldn't dare!" Dora seethed, "What right does Evelyn have to be a daughter of the Kyte family? She's just the spawn of that wench!"
With the conclusion of her rant, there was a sharp slap that left Dora struggling to keep her balance.
Incredulous, she stared at Blake. After all these years, even though he never liked her, he had never raised a hand against her. But now…
Evelyn had just arrived from Columbia and he was already striking her. What would happen if this went on?
At that moment, all Dora could think about was her own daughter, Lucia. She couldn't let Blake give everything to Evelyn.
Blake felt no regret after hitting Dora. He looked at her coldly, "You've never learned any respect."
"Oh, don't try to sugarcoat it. We all know what you're up to," Dora retorted, steadying herself and locking eyes with Blake.
Blake remained silent, so she pressed on, "Today, it's a couple of minor companies, letting her move into the Kyte estate, but what about tomorrow? Are you going to hand over the entire Kyte legacy to her?"
"She's my daughter, is it wrong for me to give her the company?" Blake thought this was exactly the right move; only Evelyn deserved to inherit his assets.
As for Lucia, it wasn't a matter of being unworthy but rather incapable. Handing the Kyte family business to her would probably lead to bankruptcy in a few years. Although he despised the Kyte name, he had invested a lot of effort over the years and naturally did not want to see it collapse.
Sadly, Dora was oblivious to these considerations. Hearing Blake not just refraining from denial but even acknowledging his plans, her entire being became agitated.
"Evelyn is your daughter, but isn't Lucia too? How can you be so blatantly unfair?" Dora looked at him, her eyes rimmed with red, barely restraining herself from tearing into the woman who had caused all this turmoil.
Facing her rage, Blake remained composed, "Aren't you aware of Lucia's capabilities? Handing over the Kyte estate to her would be meaningless."
“In all these years, you never let her set foot in the company. You didn't arrange for anyone to teach her anything. You just let her be a useless trust fund kid. And now you're saying she's incapable? Blake, it almost seems like you had this planned all along," Dora finally began to put the pieces together, realizing why, no matter how much of a screw-up Lucia was, Blake would at most dish out a few words but never really bother to set her straight.
It's like he was waiting for Lucia to fail, so he could give the company to Evelyn without question.
The more Dora thought about it, the more despicable the man before her seemed.
To stoop so low as to manipulate his own daughter, was he even human?
