Chapter 1013: Is That All
Evelyn opened her mouth but stayed silent, unsure of what to say.
Soon, they arrived at Joshua's villa. Brandon helped carry Evelyn's stuff inside.
"Evelyn, pick any room you like," Joshua said. The villa had plenty of empty rooms except for his master bedroom.
"I'll stay next to you, so I can help out," Evelyn replied.
"Alright," Joshua nodded, then turned to Brandon. "Take her things to the room."
"Got it," Brandon said, carrying her suitcase upstairs.
Seeing Evelyn watch Brandon, Joshua explained, "Brandon used to be my assistant abroad. When he heard about my accident, he came back right away. If you need anything, just ask him."
"He's more than just an assistant, right?" Evelyn chuckled dryly. She knew Joshua's work wasn't exactly above board.
Joshua paused, almost forgetting he'd told Evelyn about his past. She didn't know he was a mercenary leader, but she knew he wasn't in legitimate business. Smiling, he said, "I was just a bodyguard overseas with a small team."
"Really? That's it?" Evelyn was surprised; she thought he was some kind of gang leader.
"Yep. Don't overthink it," Joshua smiled, changing the subject.
Evelyn didn't push further. Remembering Dermot's mention of a doctor, she said, "Doctors will come in a couple of days. How about letting them check you out?"
"Okay," Joshua agreed, though he had no intention of letting any doctor touch him.
Once the room was set up, Joshua told Evelyn to rest and went to his room.
In the master bedroom, Brandon was waiting.
"Any news on the missing guy?" Joshua asked, getting up from his wheelchair.
If Evelyn walked in now, she'd be shocked to see Joshua wasn't really injured.
Brandon looked worried. "No news yet."
"Keep looking. I want him found, dead or alive." If the guy was dead, Joshua would be relieved. If he was captured, especially by Dermot, that'd be a big problem.
"Put someone on Dermot. If our guy's with him, you know what to do," Joshua instructed.
"Understood," Brandon nodded. "How long will you keep up this act? Someone might take advantage of your fake injury."
Joshua sneered. "Perfect. We'll deal with them all at once."
He was never a good guy.
"But we don't have many people left," Brandon pointed out. They'd lost a lot already, and this plan had cost them even more.
"No worries. I've got reinforcements coming soon," Joshua said, waving off the concern.
