Chapter 996: He Can't Die
Evelyn wanted to help but knew stepping out now would only distract Joshua. She stayed low by the window.
Gunfire continued. Joshua climbed out the window and joined her. "Let's go!"
"What about those people?" Evelyn asked.
"Dermot brought them here. Let's move while he holds them off," Joshua said, leading her outside without waiting for a reply.
Evelyn heard gunfire nearby and worried about Dermot but knew they had to leave quickly. Getting caught would only make things worse for Dermot.
They carefully escaped and found themselves in a small residential yard. They hid, figuring out where to climb over. Dermot had likely drawn the attackers away.
"Evelyn, step on my back and climb over," Joshua said, picking a low spot and bending down.
"Okay," Evelyn agreed, knowing time was of the essence.
Despite her physical condition, she managed to climb over the wall. As she waited for Joshua, she heard footsteps and saw Dermot approaching. "Dermot!"
"Evelyn, are you okay?" Dermot asked, walking toward her.
Suddenly, things went south. Dermot hadn't dealt with all the kidnappers.
"Watch out!" Dermot and Joshua shouted. Evelyn, already unwell, reacted slowly.
A bullet was about to hit her when Joshua leaped and pushed her to the ground.
They fell, and Joshua groaned in pain.
Dermot quickly took down the shooter and rushed to Evelyn. "Evelyn."
"I'm fine; get Joshua to the hospital," Evelyn said, trembling under Joshua.
She felt his warm blood soaking her clothes, and his face was pale.
She forgot to breathe for a moment.
Dermot lifted Joshua onto his back and supported Evelyn, heading to a nearby car.
Dermot glanced at Craig, who understood and took care of the remaining attackers.
The car sped down the road. Evelyn, dazed, was losing consciousness but snapped alert seeing the unconscious Joshua beside her.
She couldn't faint. She had to get him to the hospital and find the best doctor. Only then could she relax.
Dermot drove fast. "Evelyn, don't worry, he'll be fine."
Though he didn't like Joshua, he didn't want anything to happen to him now.
Joshua got hurt saving Evelyn. If he died, Evelyn might never forget him.
So, he couldn't die!
