Chapter 1236: It Really Is Him
The next day, Evelyn woke up feeling way better and managed to drag herself out of bed.
But Dermot? Still struggling to even sit up.
Evelyn shuffled over to Dermot's bedside. "Lemme help you out."
"Nah, you don't need to. Your injury ain't healed yet. Let Todd handle it," Dermot waved her off. But before he could finish, Evelyn had already helped him up.
"My injury wasn't that bad to start with, and I've been healing up pretty well these past couple of days. I'm good now," she reassured him.
Dermot leaned against the headboard, giving Evelyn a helpless look. "I get that you wanna take care of me, but chill. We'll have plenty of time together later."
Evelyn rolled her eyes, noticing how Dermot got all flirty as soon as he felt a bit better.
When Todd knocked and walked in, Evelyn and Dermot were lying on the same hospital bed, making Todd wonder if he had walked in at the wrong time.
"Mr. Angelo," Evelyn called out quickly as he turned to leave, "Any news about that driver?"
They were just lying there chatting, but with Todd leaving like that, it would be hard to explain.
Todd, who had just grabbed the doorknob, turned back to look at them. "Yeah, Ms. Kyte, I just found out that the driver actually works for Leonard."
Hearing this, Evelyn and Dermot exchanged a glance, instantly getting the picture.
Evelyn thought she had made herself clear before, that if Leonard was smart, he wouldn't act recklessly. But turns out, he was bold and fearless.
Todd continued, "That's why we missed him initially; the driver wasn't considered a member of the Bush family. Leonard brought him in from the outside, and because he kept such a low profile, he flew under our radar."
Later, when Evelyn reminded him to investigate again, he checked one by one and found the driver's collaboration with Leonard, confirming that he was Leonard's guy.
"I knew it wasn't an accident," Evelyn said through gritted teeth, the result being just as she had expected.
Dermot's face looked grim. He looked up at Todd and instructed, "The Bush Group has a few projects, right? Let everyone know that if they work with the Bush Group, they're crossing me."
"And also against the Kyte family," Evelyn added.
Todd nodded, getting Dermot's drift. This time, the Bush family was toast.
Soon, Todd left the ward, and Evelyn was once again pulled into Dermot's arms. "I'm really sorry for dragging you into this mess."
If it weren't for him, Evelyn wouldn't have been in danger. Dermot felt super guilty.
"Don't talk nonsense. Leonard might not have been targeting just you," she said. Although she hadn't had much interaction with Leonard, Evelyn felt that Leonard wouldn't let her off either.
Dermot held her tightly. "Thank goodness you're alright."
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. Don't you ever sacrifice yourself to protect me again," Evelyn said, pursing her lips. Although she was fine, if something happened to Dermot because of this, Evelyn felt she might never be able to forgive herself.
So, she didn't want to see him get hurt either.
Dermot smiled, feeling a rare moment of happiness. "I protect you because I want to, and besides..."
"I won you over because of this. It's worth it." He felt that after this incident, Evelyn was clearly more concerned about him.
