Chapter 1279: Let's Go See Them
Downstairs, Henry was chillin', waiting for the two of them to show up for dinner.
"Sorry, Grandpa, I totally overslept," Evelyn said, feeling kinda sheepish. She felt bad for making Henry wait.
Henry just shrugged it off. "No worries, kiddo. More sleep's good for ya. Now, sit down and dig in."
So, the three of them sat down and started munching.
After dinner, Henry asked Bruce to grab a box and handed it to Evelyn. "You and Dermot are tying the knot. Here's a little something; hope you dig it."
Evelyn looked at the box Henry handed over, feeling a bit overwhelmed. "Grandpa, this is..."
"Take it, it's just a small gift. Welcome to the Doyle fam. From now on, we're family," Henry insisted, placing the box in Evelyn's hands.
Evelyn took it and glanced at Dermot beside her. He grinned and said, "Just take it."
"Okay, thanks, Grandpa," Evelyn said to Henry.
"Open it up, see if you like it," Henry said, feeling a bit anxious. He wasn't sure what Evelyn liked and had picked something he thought was cool, but he was worried she might not dig it.
Evelyn opened the box and found a necklace inside. Even with her limited jewelry knowledge, its fancy design made it clear this was no ordinary piece.
This made her feel even more embarrassed. She hadn't gotten anything for Henry. "Grandpa, isn't this too much?"
"You're the lady of the Doyle family now. No matter how fancy it is, you deserve it," Henry said. If he had found something better, he would've picked that. In his eyes, it still didn't quite match Evelyn.
Evelyn was touched and closed the box. "Thanks, Grandpa, I really like it."
"As long as you like it. In the future, you and Dermot should live well together and try to give me a great-grandkid soon," Henry joked, really hoping to see that day.
Evelyn blushed instantly, but Dermot pulled her into his arms and said to Henry, "Don't worry, Grandpa. I'll do my best."
"Dermot!" Evelyn glared at him. "You're such a goof."
Henry was happy to see the two of them so in love.
After chatting with Evelyn and Dermot in the living room for a bit, he went back to his room to rest.
Evelyn, having slept all afternoon, was full of energy. "Let's go out for a walk. We're leaving Moris City tomorrow."
"Sure thing," Dermot agreed.
The two of them walked out of Doyle Mansion and hopped into the car. Dermot asked Evelyn, "Where to?"
Evelyn thought seriously for a moment, wondering if there was anything she hadn't done in Moris City.
Soon, she remembered something.
"Let's go see Mia and Ethan. We haven't caught up in ages, I wonder how they're doing," Evelyn said. Mia and Ethan were kids Evelyn had rescued from Willowbrook after an earthquake left them orphaned. Then she found adoptive families for both.
Since then, she hadn't visited them and had no idea how they were doing in their new homes.
Thinking about this, Evelyn felt a bit guilty. She should've visited more often. If they weren't doing well, she would've known in time.
Dermot noticed her concern and didn't refuse. He found the address of the adoptive family and drove there.
