Chapter 548 Nothing

Evelyn released Lucia, not out of faith in her hollow assurances, but due to the sound of a vehicle approaching. She surmised that it was Blake returning home.Upon Blake's entrance, the palpable tension in the living room did not escape him. His gaze roved over the trio before settling on Evelyn. "What transpired here?" he inquired.Evelyn merely shook her head, a smile gracing her lips. "Nothing of consequence." To Evelyn, it might have been a trivial matter, but for Lucia, it was a completely different narrative.Lucia, in a burst of desperation, attempted to rush towards Blake, eager to expose Evelyn's malevolent actions. However, Dora intercepted her in time, subtly shaking her head. "It's nothing, Blake. We were merely conversing with Evelyn about your impending journey to Moris City with her tomorrow."Blake's brow furrowed, sensing the undercurrents of tension among the women. Yet, with both Evelyn and Dora dismissing any issues and Evelyn appearing unperturbed, he chose not to delve deeper."Indeed, Moris City is Evelyn's hometown. It will be a worthwhile visit," Blake conceded, nodding in agreement.Dora mustered a smile, "Indeed. I've instructed the housekeeper to prepare your luggage. You should rest now."Blake, weary from the day's exertions, responded affirmatively. After exchanging a few pleasantries with Evelyn, he retired to his study upstairs. The moment Blake was out of sight, Lucia crumbled. "Mother, why can't I reveal the truth to Father?" Lucia pondered over the surveillance in the living room, aware that any confession could potentially expose Evelyn's recent transgressions.Witnessing her daughter's distress, Dora felt a surge of empathy. "Your father is evidently biased towards Evelyn at present. Telling him won't change anything. He'll merely perceive it as an attempt to sow discord."Dora harbored fears that if Lucia voiced her grievances, Evelyn might divulge the incident to Blake. She preferred to keep Blake in the dark about it. Given his current predisposition towards Evelyn, any investigation on his part might uncover something Dora wished to keep hidden.Lucia, however, was at her wit's end. Ever since Evelyn's return, her existence had become suffocating. Not only had she lost her father's affection, but her coveted position as Lady Kyte had also been usurped. Added to that were the constant threats to her life. She wondered when this torment would cease."Sis," Evelyn sneered, her tone dripping with condescension, "Mother's right. We're sisters, aren't we? Don't try to create a rift with Father." Her smile was a source of immense irritation to Lucia.Lucia yearned to retaliate, but she knew she was no match for Evelyn. She was left seething in impotent rage.Evelyn was indifferent to Lucia's animosity. What did it matter if Lucia despised her? Evelyn had nothing to lose. Observing Lucia's decision to drop the matter, Evelyn wasted no further time and ascended to her room.Meanwhile, Dermot stirred awake in the psychiatrist's office. He hadn't experienced such restful sleep in a long while.Upon opening his eyes, he was greeted by the sight of an alluring woman—Dr. Bright, the psychiatrist to whom Evelyn had referred him. Prior to contacting her, he hadn't been aware that Dr. Bright was a woman. His initial treatment had surpassed all his expectations. Although not completely healed, he experienced a sense of tranquility that had eluded him for some time. This was the reason he had returned for a second session today.
