Chapter 1097: You've Worried Too Much
In the hospital room, Evelyn pushed the door open and strolled in. Joshua was propped up against the headboard, looking pale as a ghost.
Back in the day, Evelyn would've been all torn up and guilty seeing him like this.
But now? Nah, she knew he was faking it. Sympathy? Out the window. She actually wanted to call him out right then and there.
She held back, though. Instead, she shot a glance at Brandon, who was hanging around nearby, plotting how to test him.
"Evelyn, weren't you busy? What brings you here now?" Joshua asked, flashing her a smile.
Evelyn took a deep breath and walked over. "Wrapped up my stuff, so I came to check on you."
"Sorry to make you worry," Joshua said, looking all guilty.
Evelyn stared at him, feeling a mix of emotions.
She couldn't wrap her head around Joshua pretending. If he was acting, he deserved an Oscar.
Evelyn moved to the bedside and gave a faint smile. "Joshua, don't say that. You ended up like this saving me. I'm the one who's sorry."
Neither of them mentioned going abroad. Evelyn and Joshua kept their cool, but Brandon couldn't hold it in.
"Ms. Kyte, have you decided? Are you going abroad with Mr. Garcia? The doc said the sooner, the better for his condition," Brandon blurted out.
Joshua shot him a disapproving look. "Shut up and get out."
"Mr. Garcia," Brandon started, not ready to give up.
"Get out!" Joshua snapped. Brandon had no choice but to leave.
Just as he took a step, Evelyn grabbed his right arm. Pain shot through him, and he broke out in a cold sweat.
But he didn't cry out. Instead, he looked at Evelyn like nothing happened. "Ms. Kyte, what are you doing?"
"I missed breakfast this morning. Could you grab me something to eat?" Evelyn let go of Brandon's arm and smiled. "Joshua probably hasn't eaten either."
Brandon glanced at Joshua, who nodded. "Oh, I'll go right away."
Brandon left, and Evelyn sat by the bed. "Joshua, you okay?"
"I'm fine. Don't listen to Brandon's nonsense. Even if I don't go abroad, I'll be okay," Joshua said, waving it off like it was no big deal.
But Evelyn's heart sank.
If Joshua was really fine, why bring up going abroad? It was just a reminder.
Thinking back, a lot of Joshua's words were hints. She hadn't noticed before because she trusted him too much. But now...
And just now, even though Brandon didn't cry out, Evelyn saw his pain.
Dermot was right; Brandon's arm was injured.
She could lie to herself and say it wasn't a gunshot wound, but that was just silly.
Evelyn couldn't fool herself anymore.
She knew there were no such coincidences in the world.
"Joshua, I've thought about it, and I think going abroad with you is okay," Evelyn suddenly said, catching Joshua off guard.
Joshua had been a bit bummed when Evelyn didn't answer yesterday. He thought he'd have to work harder to convince her.
He didn't expect her to agree just like that.
"Evelyn, are you serious?" Joshua asked, unsure if she was joking.
Evelyn nodded. "Of course. As long as you can get better, I'll do anything."
Evelyn wondered, 'Joshua, I'm willing to do anything for you. Will you feel even a little guilty?'
